Road Noise - Gmt900

The only real complaint I have with my 07 Sierra is some excessive road noise on the highway (OK, except maybe for torque management). It comes up from behind the seat / back of cab area. Otherwise the truck is super nice and quiet. My truck is a RCSB but I never really had this issue with my previous generation trucks (GMT800 / 400 etc). I have had a bunch of RCSB trucks so I am quite used to them.

Has anybody tried Dynamat on the rear wall or floor in their truck? Does it help? I don't want to rip out all of my interior, spend the money for the Dynamat, unless it will at least help the problem.

Your input (or even guesses) would be appreciated.

Get rid of your only other complaint (Torque Management) and you will forget all about that road noise.

I can't help you out there Jim, but I can suggest getting the underbody sprayed. When I had my bed Rhino lined, I also had them do this to my truck. I don't know what they used; it's a thick, very firm substance. They did underneath the truck as well as the body cavities. It ran about $500 and in addition to protecting the truck made it quieter (and it's a quiet truck to begin with). Just a suggestion.

I really haven't considered undercoating but these trucks sure don't have any... bare floor under there. Might have to look into that. Thanks.

Yeah... there are other products out there as good as or maybe even better than Dynamat... and cheaper to buy too.

Dynamat is good stuff though. I've used it in a few vehicles and it works very well. It's thicker and has better adhesive than a lot of the "knock offs".

i have used dynamat in the past ... but after getting ahold of a roll of the RAAM stuff ... and how easy it installed .. and the smell .. (or lack of) ... and then the overall quality of the reduction ... (and the first car i did ... still has it in there and the owner has had no issues with it falling out of place etc etc) ... i stopped paying the premium for what you get on dynamat ...

never heard of the quietcar before tho ...

I had that under body spray/sound proofing done on my Mustang. I would highly recomend NOT using it. They claimed 40% noise reduction, it might have been 10-15. The stuff covers everything including bolts and nuts that may need acessed later. Overspray on shocks and exhaust is annoying as well.

Thanks for the input. I'm probably going to go with the RAAM sound deadener and see how it works. I'll post some in process pics.
