Chrome Door Handles

Welp, took the truck to the dealer today to get some warranty work done. and told the service tech to find out how much chrome door handles would run me plus the install..

at first i was told 145$ for the handles plus labor. so i was thinking around 250$ thats not to bad.. later the service tech called me and corrected me on the price. 145$ per handle = 580 + labor = 700 to 900$.. JESUS!

anyone know if this is somehow incorrect? if i am able to find some factory handles on ebay, how hard would it be for me to install them myself?

also, if someone can recommend me some nice chrome door handle cover that would be great.

pictures are always appreciated.

I bought mine there and installed them myself... Talk about saving $$$. I only paid 59 bucks for my pair.

Yes. They weren't too hard to do but I have been tinkering with vehicles for a long time. My recommendation to somebody that isn't very mechanically inclined is to take the truck to a local body shop that has a good reputation and have them do it. Good bodymen are wizards at taking apart body related stuff. A good shop would probably install everything for 200 or less and if you only pay 120 for the handles... well it isn't to hard to see that you save a ton of cash in the process.... especially compared to the STEAlership.

It's worth the money to get the handles and not the covers. The first time one of your covers blows off while you're on the highway you'll agree!

yeah i only payed 60$ for 2 handles (for my ext cab) and i installed them myself... the instructions the handles come with are horrible, but now that i have done it once, its super easy. the 1st door took me about 30-40 mins... and the 2nd door took me prob 6 minutes. if your not mechanically inclined i guess a couple of the steps would be slightly tricky... but over all its really not tough, just have to do things in the right order and not force anything (since most of it is plastic and held on with clips)... nice install tho, very happy i added them to my black truck, much better than the dull black stock ones.

btw, got them from local dealer... was a disscounted price, but if you shop around on the net, shouldnt be hard to find them for that... or less than 100$ (for 2) no problem!... and for 2 (or even 4) i wouldnt pay more than 200...not a chance! i mean there plastic.... and i would rather install them myself, and learn how to do it... even if its trial and error for a few minutes...

I just checked my dealer's website and they are charging $140 for 4 chrome door handles and about $270 for install. The price is about 1/2 that for a 2 door install.

I saw this on GMfullsize.com when I was researching on how to do the install. It's a pretty good write up on removing the door panels and changing the handles. My truck is an LTZ so the door panel removal was a bit different.
