I read on here that some of you are from Minnesota and Canada and since I am moving there in June I was wondering if there was anything I need to do to my truck like engine block heater. Its not a diesel its gas but some people I have told think I will need to. All of whom have never been there mind you. Just curious thanks for any info.

The only thing that I do is make sure that I have a good battery in my truck. (not an old one) With a good battery these new trucks will fire every time. I also spent three years in Grand Forks, ND which is a lot colder then Minneapolis and did the same thing.

I don't have a block heater on my truck, if I did I would use it when temperatures got below 0 just to shorten warm up times. But it is not necessary.

I would not worry about it too much.

We have never had any problems with our gas vehicles, but if you did have a diesel then you might want to take some precautions. Its not very good when your diesel fuel begins to gel in the fuel lines! Also make sure you have a good set of tires for snow driving this is really helpful to have in the winter time.

I was plannin on putting some Firestone Destination AT's on both my truck and my girlfriends Jeep. I like they way they look and I think they would be a good tire . Thanks for your information

Welcome to Minnesota!!! Land of 10,000 crappy sports teams. But it is still the best place in America to live. And I am saying this on a day that did NOT get above zero....High today was -2.

Make a garage a priority and you won't need anything other than a good battery. I have never used a a block heater in my 26 years of driving here in MN.

PS Don't worry, by June, MOST of the snow should be melted. :chevy:

As much as I want a garage likely we will be getting and apartment or maybe a townhouse/condo style place and it seems that best I can hope is a one car garage which I will let my girlfriend use. Maybe we can find a place with a large closed garage area for all the residents of the complex? Have to wait and see when we come up in March to check out some places. I think I am going to need some heavier clothes for winter up there, oh well. Looking forward to moving heard its nice up there. Thanks for the welcome!

Oh yeah also your going to want a windshield clearing thingy to keep in your car. The things that have a wide pick type thing on one end for scraping ice and a brush on the other for well brushing the snow off your vehicle. Those are really handy when you go outside and your car is covered with 2 inches of snow. Also, I have never used this stuff, but you can buy stuff that will help unfreeze ice on windshields. Like I said I have never used it, but it couldn't hurt to have.
