Oxygen Sensor Question After Talking To Wait4me

Jesse told me that GM has their sensors set on a 25%ish slop to avoid having to change them frequently. He said he changes his every 25,000 miles. Claimed that they begin deteriorating and not functioning 100% around 30,000.

 

I am very happy with his tunes, but I am not getting the MPG increase I had expected. He suggested changing my front O2 sensors.

 

Any truth to this? I'm sure there's going to be an uproar on here regarding this!

I heard with a Nelson tune Allen personally comes to your house and changes the sensors and doesn't even charge. Jesse is too lazy to even do that; it's a wonder he's even in business.

Don't think I've heard that one before. But it wouldn't be the first part GM has exagerated about life expentency. Either way, you know how it is with mileage. You'll have one person get a 2-3 mpg increase then another identical vehicle have no change at all. Assuming they truly were identical in every way physically possible, it's gotta be the driver. Try driving around without going past 2k RPM. I bet your mileage will increase then!

 

I say just go for the oxygen sensor trick and let us know how it works! Not like it's going to hurt anything.

Very true. I gotta see if I can find a deal for the front sensors first. Hate to spend a bunch of money that isn't faulty though.

 

Any GM techs care to chime in?

If you try it, just replace the front sensors. The rear (downstream) are only used for OBDII emissions making sure you have catalytic converter before it
