Loud Ticking On Startup.. Nbs!

I have an 07 Sierra 5.3 and sometimes I am getting some ticking on startup. It sounds like lifters to me. To say I am not happy is a HUGE understatement. I am gonna take it to the dealership, but I absolutely dont want them to have to go into the motor. Anyone else experience this?

The 5.3 is supremely dependable but anything CAN happen... What oil are you using? Have you changed oil and type to see if it goes away?

Mine has not made any ticking noises so far, hot or cold (7200 miles). The only noise is that faint whine probably coming form he power steering pump, but that is a different issue and caused by a design flaw within the pump itself.

Defective oil filter? Mine sounds like rocks in a dryer when I start it up but thats with 300000km on it, and only when cold.

thats wierd because they fixed the piston slap on the new Gen IV's I thought. Mine the other day it was below 0 and ticked for a second when i first started her but I think this is normal...everything was like molasas...

Mine does it for about 4-5 seconds then goes away. It does not do it all the time. Only when it's the first start of the day and it's cold outside.

With all the other starting quirks that are deemed normal, I'm sure this one is also.

If you take it in let us know what they say.

I will. I am just not the kind of person to be able to live with it. This truck was almost 40k Sticker I would expect a little more.

When I first got my truck with 25 miles on it I noticed that it made a ticking noise, especially when sitting in a drive thru. Now that I have 6000 miles on it I don't hear it anymore. I even sat there and tried to listen for it but I don't hear it. So mabye it goes away with time. But this is my experience.

Mine does not tick at all. Try changing the oil filter. You could have a filter with a bad anti drain back valve. This will cause a slight delay of the oil reaching the top end. Be sure to use a quality filter like Napa Gold or Wix.

The car has had the problem since 1500 miles. I have gone through several oil changes and its not going away.

Then that is not the problem, just trying to eliminate the simple thing first. Hope you get it figured out.

My old 99 5.3L did it, and my new 07 5.3L does it, goes away after a few seconds after starting up. It's normal.

HMM.. Mine will do it for a few seconds or maybe for 45 seconds sometimes. I dont think I can put up with it.lol.
