Durability Of My Trans?

First off, I know there are no 100% for sure things and that said I am wondering just how durable my transmission is? I have a cold air intake and will be getting a cat-back and I think some long tube SuperMaxx headers. I am sure that I will need a tune to get everything to run right as well. From a long term stand point (I plan on keeping my truck for years) will the extra HP and TQ take away from the long term durability of my transmission?

I am really not worried about the motor itself and GM has a long history with the LS series motors. I've seen stock with power adders pushing over 500hp without major difficulty or internal mods.

I'm looking for thoughts about putting power to the ground. thanks

It will shorten the life of your stock trans....may consider modding the trans for stronger output of the engine....or get a transmission like FLT...or something similar

You really think I would need to mod the trans for a 50hp or less increase in power? wow.... maybe I should have also pointed out that I don't have plans to drag race a 5290lb truck, just a daily driver with towing about once every two months or so on average.

maybe with billet servos, bigger pan with more fluid, and a trans cooler, but that is just my opinion...

I have a Nelson Tune which removed 100% of my TM and it also added about 30-35 HP and Allen Nelson told me I would not have a problem with my 4L70E (assuming i don't beat on it regualrly). He would not recommend removing 100% TM on the 4L60E's though.

You'll be fine, why spend the money "building" the tranny now? If it breaks, then build it so it will never break again. If mine fails in the first 5 years, GM will fix it, if it fails after that...it's MODDING time!!!

If the 4L70E is as stout as the 4L80E, you should be able to put the extra 50hp with no problems. Just keep an eye on the trans temp.

im with draenor on this one, 50hp on it shouldnt be a problem. Oh and im on the 60E and have headers, intake, and exhaust, tranny is acting a little weird. so when that goes so does the 4 spd in favor of the 6 speed.

how high a trans temp is too high?

The rate of oxidation really goes up over 200F. So if your truck goes over that on a regular basis, you should change your fluid a lot more often, and install a larger trans cooler. Then you will be fine.

anyone that knows fact from fiction please chime in here....

I have the MAX package and I could have sworn that the 6.0 with the 4L70e came with a trans cooler?

Hey VMAX2007, how does yours feel? No slippage, no crazy jerks?

Nope, no slippage and it shifts beautifully, smooth under normal accell and nice and quick/firm under hard accell. Nelson tuned it perfectly!!!
