Front Valence

What is the purpose of the front black valence?

I am thinking about taking it off of my NBS silverado CCSB, but I just want to make sure it doesnt serve an important purpose. I took it off of my old 01 tahoe and seemed for no effect. Just gives it a higher and more aggressive look.

The valence is for fuel economy. It helps the aerodynamics, but if you take it off you will hardly notice the mpg difference. Well probably about .1 LOL

I beleive its purpose is to get smashed of concrete parking barriers and snow drifts. Just take take the screw out on either side and pull or push it frontwards and it should just pop off.

The valance doesn't do much for fuel economy but the truck looks weird without it.

I would have to disagree. I took mine off today right before I posted this to make sure to leave it off. I uploaded pictures of it and can be found by the link in my signature.

My owners manual says to remove it when off road, but to re-install it once back on the road for engine cooling purposes??

I remember seeing that in my '06 manual. The GMT-800's owners manual (at least in Z71 form) told you how to remove the valance panel and the the soft stuff above it for off roading. Sounds like they forgot to remove some of it in the 900 manuals.

I think the main reason for keeping it as stated earlier may be for aerodynamics. I haven't noticed any mileage decrease, if anything without it should allow more cool air to enter the engine bay from the bottom. I ripped mine off of my first truck, 97 silverado ECSB, so I figured I would rather take it off instead of risking ripping it off of a plastic bumper. I would recommend everyone take it off, especially if leveled or lifted, it gives an even line with the rest of the body.
