Gm Fog Light Accessory Kit-try Turning Them On Before Taking To Dealer

Just put the GM foglight accessory kit on my 06 Silverado. Pretty straight forward. I think that the hardest part was getting the clips out of the lower bumper deflector. The instructions were decent.

There is an error with the instructions. When connecting the foglamp harness to the underhood relay center front light connctor(Green) it stated to place the terminal in socket D6 but the illustration showed A4. I looked at the connector there was already something in A4 so I placed it in D6.

The Instructions state that the BCM needs to be reflashed with updated software allowing it intrface with the foglamp circuit. After finishing the install I thought just for grins that I would try to turn them on anyway. The foglamps came on .

I called my freind who is a GMC Technician here in Wichita and told him that the foglamps worked without reflashing the BCM. He thought that was quite odd. He thought that maybe in 06 that the factory may have either started placing the foglamp option in the software for the BCM or that it may have been accidentally programmed at the factory. To his knowledge he said that you have to reflash the BCM to get the foglights to work.

I suggest that you should try turning the foglights on after installing the kit. If they work, you just saved yourself the time and money of taking it to the dealership to have the BCM reflashed

That is if they were not equipped with the latest calibration before they were shipped from the factory....according to GM TAC (GM Technical Assistance Center) some were shipped with the BCM already programmed for plug and play, others were not, it can only be determined by either plugging in the Tech 2 or checking the VCI...

When I had my 04 it was just plug and play, it was the early 04. What sucks is I put the kit in 3 months after I bought the truck and 1 month later some a** ran a stop sign. Was the end of that truck.
