Shake And Brake

I have a 95 GMC c2500 295,xxx. It has been shaking for awhile but when i changed the front brakes last week it got worse. It has new rotors, bearing, pads, idler arm, pitman arm, and shocks. I had the ball joints and tie rods/ends checked and the shop said they were in 'great' condition. It gives a minor shudder below 40 mph, once above 45 it gets pretty harry. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

So it only shakes while braking? You have front discs and rear drums? Are the rotors new, or just turned? It may be the calipers themselves that are bad.

It is front discs and rear drums.

I jacked the truck up and gave the wheels a spin and seem to have no drag like a caliper frozen or with stuck slides.

It is front discs and rear drums.

forgot.... Rotors are new not turned BTW.

The lugs may be to tight or the brake pads are not properly seated in the caliper or the brake rotors run-out is not correct. this will really show itself on anti-lock brakes versus the older model disc brakes. Even new rotors can be bad. most parts stoers can check the rotors for you. If you take them back to the place you got the new rotors they will probably check them for you.

The lug nuts may have been tightened very unevenly, warping the rotors. Or, the caliper bolts are not fully tightened.

Man I had a '97 K2500 that had the same symptoms, exactly! I changed the brakes and rotors...no help at all. I finally pulled the front wheels/tires and swapped them to the rear, and the problem followed. I had the tires/wheels checked for balance and I had 1 completely coming apart at the belts inside, and the other nearly as bad. Ended up spending $1000 that day for tires. General Tires, never again.

Same thing, low-speed pulsation. Didn't notice except near stopped while braking. Tried rolling slow and it was there then. Bad tire.

Still haven't read as to whether this happens ONLY when brakes are applied.

That is the same symptom that comes and goes with my americraps....I intend to tear these up before I get new ones.....

Im not the OP but I have the exact same problem .. only while braking .. new rotors . . new tires . . Ill look into the calipers

any other suggestions?

That is the same symptom that comes and goes with my americraps....I intend to tear these up before I get new ones.....

I had an almost brand new General tire blow at 70 MPH on my old Pontiac Boneville several years back - I drifted across two lanes and almost wrecked the car. There was a giant hole in the sidewall of the tire. Ever since that incident, I would not use General tires if I got them for free.
