Puddle Light Wiring

Recommended Posts

As many know, some vehicles have lights under their mirrors which turn on with the interior lights when unlocking and when doors are open. My truck did not come with any, so I am trying to add some.

I going to add some lower power lighting and mount it under the truck to shine on the ground. How would I go about connecting the positive wire to have the lights on when the car is unlocked and when doors are open for exiting? Any help would be nice.

EDIT:

Could I just tap into the socket at the kick panel on the driver's side then run it to a relay that was connected directly to the battery, that way when the inside courtesy lights are on they have power and when they are off its off.

Could I also just tap into the courtesy lights fuse or would that give power all the time?

Hey Louisiana Guy, you've got foot-well lights? As far as running that light through a relay circuit, I don't know why you would need to. If you just added one small light behind the rocker panel the courtesy circuit would probably carry it. It handles the cargo light now. I think it would be pretty cool if the puddle light dimmed out anyway.

Well I am not sure that they have a floor well light, my last two vehicles had them so I was assuming this one did too. I may have to find the wire that runs to another courtesy light.
