My uncle has a 01 Tahoe and the backlight for the AC button has burnt out. THe light to show the AC is on still works just not the backlight when the headlights are on. He took it ot the dealer and they said he needed to change the entire unit at a cost of $350. Is there a way the change just the bulb?

Yep gotta change the whole unit. I had it done to mine but I have an extended warranty so I had another issue taken care of at the same time. Maybe try to get one from a salvage yard.

Oh and the same thing goes for the Dash too (instrument panel).

The dealer is trying to rape you. I just had mine changed at the dealer (which was under my extended warranty) and the invoice for parts and labor only came up to 228$ to replace the control panel. I have an 01 Suburban with the rear defroster button on the AC control. The tahoe is the same as mine if he has a rear defroster. The part number is 15054698 . You can get one from GMpartsdirect.com for only 88 bucks. And its not hard to change out at all. Simply pop off the dash bezel and unplug the AC control. You dont even need any tools, you can do it with your bare hands, thats how easy it is to swap it out. Everything is held on with clips.

The bulbs can be replaced much cheaper. It just isn't as easy. Lots of us have done it, I've done it several times on my older truck. Same went for the instrument cluster.

This is not how GM recommends to fix it, much like the ABS control module, the parts can be fixed but not by GM.
