Help With Swapping Low/high Beams

Ok - I'll be honest, I've never had to change a bulb in any of the vehicles I've owned since my 1984 Toyota Tercel - and I'm probably on vehicle number ten since then.

I've got a 2008 Sierra Denali and am looking to swap my High/Low beams out with some cool whites.

I took apart the air filter on the passenger side but still couldn't make my fingers do the magical grip to get the existing bulb off. Even if I did get it off, I wasn't sure how I was going to carefully remove the bulb without dropping it or get the replacement back in.

What are the tools or tricks of the trade to something I thought was going to be rather easy to do myself? I'm guessing that I could purchase some long pliers in combination with something else to make this go smoother.

Instructions say to disconnect the negative on the battery? Is this really necessary?

Your talking to a complete novice when it comes to vehicles if you haven't already figured it out...so be gentle.

Did some searching but couldn't find anyone else with the same problem...I must really be an idiot.

I have an 05 Denail, so the headlight swap is a 2 minute job. I don't know why GM would have made it so difficult to change the headlights in the NBS. I read a post probably 6 months ago where guys with the NBS had to remove the front bumper cover to change the headlights. Try a search and you might find it or repost this under the full size truck forum, and you should a response from a NBS owner. Good luck! I like the NBS, but GM removed some of the nice features of the 800s that make me want to keep my 05 for a long time.
