guydur Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 hello. just went to check the trans oil level in my silverado classic. simple enough, right? not really. i pulled the dipstick out with the engine warm, truck running and in park, wiped the oil off and when i went to push it back in it doesn't sit flush on the top of the tube. i can push it down, but it pops back up about half to 3/4 of an inch unless i use the red locking tab. anyway, i'm getting a low reading...just barely on the bottom of the dipstick. i think that this is why its showing low, for some reason i think the dipstick is getting caught or hung up on something (pan gasket maybe) just wondering if anyone else has had this problem. i checked two other silverados (both 01's) and neither dipstick popped back up like mine does. my truck has about 15k on it and i can't think of any other reason for the low level. it doesn't appear to be leaking. thanks
silveradocoa Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 does that on a lot of em, try turnin the stick over 180degrees. all the ones ive had did that. the trans has vent tubes and they burn oil just like a motor does albiet NOWHERE near as much. a quart every 10-15k is ok in my book especially if its 4wd or has any oversized wheels
