Kansas Kid Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 I was changing my oil over the weekend and found some fluid underneath the truck by the passenger side front tire. Appeared as if it was coming from somewhere around the rack and pinion setup. Took it in last night and the truck spent all day today being worked on but the leak was fixed. Didn't get exact details over the phone as to what was done. Service manger told me they needed to keep it another day to work on the rough idle/surging problem. Hopefully this time they can fix the problem. Not holding out hope though since it is the third time I have had it in for that specific problem. Does anyone think that I might be able to cure the rough idle problem with a custom tune???
punmax Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 Glad to hear things are working out for you. I also have the rough idle and surge problem.
Draenor Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 Rought idle could be a faulty IAC or a possible vacuum leak.
nakedicarus Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 Does anyone think that I might be able to cure the rough idle problem with a custom tune??? Can you describe just how rough your idle is?
99silverado1500 Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 My idle can vary 25-50 rpms but it usually stays somewhat still, but will sometimes bounce a tiny bit
Kansas Kid Posted March 7, 2008 Author Posted March 7, 2008 Just talked to the dealer and they said I had the latest and greatest updates on my truck, but GM was aware of the rough idle/surging problems with the NBS VortecMax trucks. The said that mine was a little better then some they have seen here lately, but they would keep me up to date if anything comes down from GM as far as a fix. I was just happy to talk to someone who admitted that it wasn't supposed to do this and that they fixed the leak. As far as describing how it idles, I would say it is like a truck that has had a cam put in. Kind of a loping feeling. It goes away once the truck is warm, and gets worse the colder the outside temperature. When I went back home to Kansas for Christmas, it was noticeable worse because of the cold temps. I certainly won't be starting to file this thing as a lemon, because the truck is put together very well and has plenty of power and decent gas mileage. Overall I am very happy with the truck. Just kind of irritating that it idles like it does because I know people here that don't have that problem.
Lincoln30 Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 Do you think the dealer is doing a good job??? What dealer in Fort Worth are you using??? I ask b/c I'm not very happy with Jerry's service dept.
tinie0416 Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 Do you think the dealer is doing a good job??? What dealer in Fort Worth are you using??? I ask b/c I'm not very happy with Jerry's service dept. I have the same problem with my vmax, it idles rough and surges at stop lights. Been to the dealer three times, and they said it was normal. If you open your hood and watch that engine, it shakes more than normal. I think it may be a balancing problem. Just my two cents.....

I ask b/c I'm not very happy with Jerry's service dept. I am using Jerry's as well, and I am not happy with their service department either. My truck spent 4 days there last week and they didn't fix my problem with the parking lights not working all the time even though I told them the problem was with the fuse block. They wrote on my invoice that the lights work all the time, yet when I got in it to drive home Friday night the lights weren't working before I got half a mile down the road. Had to drive back first thing Saturday morning and do some yelling to get them to investigate the problem more. Turns out the fuse block needed replaced, but of course it needed to be ordered and wouldn't be in for 5 days. So now my truck gets to go back once again for some more work. Don't know who I will try next, but it will definetely be someone closer to where I live. I don't need to drive 30 miles out of my way just to take it to the dealer where it was purchased if the service isn't any better.

Seems it could be quite fun at stoplights! This on the other hand is quite nearly embarassing, at least . This last one is interesting. I could not figure out why he was driving thru a parkade. Figured out it was cam lope. Does your truck have ? ps sorry second and third link were the same till I fixed em.
saxdogg Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 I suggest you Ft. Worth guys try James Wood in either Decatur or Denton. I've enjoyed the people I've met there. I'm sure there are lots of other places around you though that are closer. JP

I've got a small list of minor complaints growing (loose door panels, loose plastic foot panel on both sides) and will end up taking it in eventually even if something big doesn't come up. Do the Wood locations let you borrow a car if you have to leave yours there?

It's close and the service dept is open 'til 7PM (which works alot better for me). James Wood is just too far away for me since I typically don't need a loaner or rental (just a ride home). But I will keep them in mind if FK doesn't work out.
