Brakes On 08 Nbs 1/2 Ton Silverado

In December I purchased a 2008 1/2ton crew cab z/71 Silverado. I absolutely love everything about the truck - except the brakes. I will never understand why they went back to rear drum brakes on these trucks. I had a 2003 Sierra with four wheel discs and thought they were great. Great stopping power, great pedal feel, and they lasted forever. These brakes have a very inconsistent feel and much worse stopping power.

The question for my post is the inconsistency in the pedal. When stopping I sometimes get a strong firm pedal feel that is very smooth. Other times I will get a very soft pedal that I will have to push firmly on to stop the truck, and what feels like brakes slipping or pulsating right before the vehicle stops. I had the brakes turned right after I got the vehicle because they were pulsating bad. They improved for a while, but now have this very noticable inconsistency.

Any suggestions anyone? Could they need turning again? Adjusting? Thanks for any input.
