Broken Pin In Rear Axle

Recommended Posts

Posted

I have a 1993 K1500. When I went to change the axle shaft seals, I broke the bolt inside the differential that holds the pin which in turn holds the axles in place! I tried putting a welding rod in the hole and a quick on/off. This did not allow enough bite to get the remainder of the bolt out. Any ideas?

try a chisle, and just hit it around in a circle with a hammer, might nto work but does sometimes if you can get the chisle to "bite"

Go to your local hardware store and get an easy out, you will have to drill a hole to start it then give it a tap and screw it in it has reverse threads on it.If your comfortable with a welder i would use a high stainless rod like 309L or 316L 3/32 run it about 54 ampthe colder the better then just strike an arc make a little ball on the end of the bolt chip it off continue this until you can get vise grips on the the weld or bevel a bolt the same size and weld it to the weld on the end of the broken bolt let it cool very well and turn it out. the stainless rods flux helps protect the threads i do this 10 to 15 times a days remove broken bolts thats is i am a welder for catipillar hope this helps. :D
