Are You Ready For A Hybrid Or Other?

Obviously oil prices are out of control and the reality is they wont be comming down. A weak dollar, foreign contries using all they can get will not change. I am not happy about it but its time to face the facts. The USA has to find a way to reduce our consumption and become more independent that much everyone knows. People can talk all they want but never seem to actually do anything including me. Unless we help ourselves no one is going to do anything. I realize most people on this board have a truck for a reason. I do as well. All my hobbie, personal life and even job require a truck from time to time. Still I could do things to help save. Obviously the biggest is to put the truck in the garage except when it is really needed.

Over the last few years more fuel efficent cars have come out and dispite what some critics say will save gas and money especially if we hit $4/gallon which is not far out. Even GM with the Silverado and Tahoe realized they must start somewhere with there new Hybrids. Over the next few generations of Hybrids fuel efficiency will keep improveing i.e direct injection, diesel/hybrid.

How many of you are now looking at ways to save?? Will you consider parking the truck and driving a hybrid or more fuel efficient vehicle??

If i had the money i might get the all electric Tesla Roadster, but in the other stall of the garage is going to be a big, fast, non-fuel efficent vehicle.

This is my chance to be in on the ground floor of a legendary, archive quality, suitable for framing, Federalist Paper league thread. :P

I might consider a hybrid for my next vehicle if the payback on fuel savings could be accomplished before it was slap wore out. There is no eco reason, the battery disposal is on par with nuclear waste.

My cheapest option is to keep my truck as my daily driver. I can't afford a 3rd vehicle just to drive to work. My truck's almost paid off. If I were in the market for a "make me feel better about myself" vehicle I would hold out for the Chevy Volt.

Stop whining America and get off of your asses and make more money. :P

Even if you drove enough for your fuel bill (at $4.00 / Gal) to go up 100 bucks a month, it would take FOREVER to make up the difference in money you spend switching over to another vehicle... especially if you fork over for a Hybrid. The numbers don't add up. Three years if everything else was the same to make up for most of the cost for the Hybrid upgrade alone. Hybrids are simply a "politically correct" vehicle. For most drivers, a switch of any kind is not a good financial move.

I do agree that new technologies need to be explored in the very near future for our transportation needs... but the current group of Hybrids are pretty much "for show".

My brother has a 100k 2003 Corolla (it's a tiny POS) that he uses as a daily driver while his truck sits at home. It gets 35mpg highway compared to one of my salesmen who drives a Prius and gets 39 mpg highway. Both are used as commuters for a highway trip to work. It isn't hard to see that the winner is obviously the $16,000 Corolla if pure cost / return numbers are used. Another thing to consider is the fact that the Corolla hasn't ever had a sick day and the Prius has had a rather extensive list of dealer visits.

I believe that anybody shopping for a new vehicle at this time should take fuel economy into consideration if fuel costs are a concern to them. Gas isn't gonna get any cheaper!

I also believe that I am going to continue driving my truck and taking my boat to the lake.

No Hybrid for me! There isn't a Hybrid out there now or in the near future is going to make me run out and buy a new expensive vehicle. My next non-gas vehicle (far in the future) would have to be something "cool," like a speedy Tesla Roadster electric car, or a Hyrdogen powered vehicle. As these technologies continue to advance they will become more and more a reality for your average consumer.

It's all or nothin' for me!

this is my last truck until someone makes one that is either alternate fuel or power source. And I don t mean a hybrid that get s 2 more MPGs or flex fuel :P Until that happens I ll do like Zembonez says " Just make a little more money to offset the extra cost" But I m not going to work extra forever to make someone else rich. And I do also own snowmobiles and a boat.

every gallon a hybrib/import saves is burned through my trucks V8 :P

I love that quote. Just wish I had the cash to back that statement up :D

True story about these retarded Hybrids appearing now, especially the GM's.

I work at a large Buick-Pontiac-GMC-Cadillac store. Well, 2 weeks ago, we got our first Hybrid Yukon 4x4 in.

Tech goes to prep it for the lot. It stalled on him 2 or 3 times at intersections.

Keep in mind-this is with 2 miles on the odometer.

It was already back in the shop last week-needed more work-still wasn't right. Had PCM issues.

C'mon GM---can't you guys get something right, for once??

Oh, and for the STEEP price of $54,000, GM can take that Hybrid idea and shove it.
