Have any of you experienced a failure of the GM integrated brake control unit? It seems mine has failed and the dealer tells me they do not have a fix and are awaiting GM response.

Please add the specifics of the failure. Does the manual control work? Does the gain adjustment show up in the IP? Please add as many specifics as possible.

No, the manual controller does not work either. Yes the gain adj. shows on the IP. I can adj. up or down to no effect. The trailer is less than a year old. Last used to haul a car to and from Daytona last Oct. trailer is enclosed Featherlite. 2 4800 lb axels. Dealer confirms it is busted and awaiting GM to tell them what to do. Apparently this has happend more that once and GM is in the hunt for a fix.

Great. This had me wondering... if the integrated brake controller does stop working, is there still the provision under the dash to plug in an external one? I toyed with that question for awhile before ordering mine. Naturally, I went the wrong way.

I have the integrated brake controller on my 08 2500HD and just found out it doesn't work either. Will show gain up and down but no brake action. Will be interested on what the fix will be. Also have the navigation and found it wont dim automaticallybetween day and night. Have tried using manual settings and they work but not on the automatic mode. To the dealer I go.

I have an 08 Sierra 3500 with the ITBC and mine does not seem to work well at all. I tow a 40' Raptor triple axle I have gain set to 10, if I use the manual control it works a little. Just does not seem to put out enough power. It does have the wiring under the dash for an external controller and GM has instructions out how to unhook the ITBC and install the aftermarket. I guess you have to do that to use Electric over Hydraulic system

I hope the solution isn't this simple but you have to make sure your truck is off when plugging the trailer in for the IBC to work your trailer brakes. No idea as to why it's designed that way. If you plug in with your truck running, you'll need to shut off & then restart.

If you want an after-market brake controller there is lots of discussion over at rv.net. When I checked last year, the most recommended electronic brake controller that did not require direct connection to the vehicle brake lines was the TruControl (now called TruControl Gold) from Hensley Manufacturing. It supposedly achieved close to IBC performance, however is not inexpensive. I have one fitted but so far have only towed occasionally.

The most recommended controller I know of is the Tekonsha Prodigy. I got mine 2 years ago because it was the highest rated on rv.net

Robert, While the Prodigy was (still is?) highly rated the consensus I read was that the TruControl was even better if you were towing heavy trailers, particularly if you were close to your towing limits. Since then (and after I bought my TruControl) Tekonsha come out with the P3. From the little I read it appears to be part way between the Prodigy and the TruControl in performance but at a more reasonable price.

I have an 07 with the IBC and have plugged in my TT while the truck is running - the DIC simply reads TRAILER CONNECTED when I get back in the cab. I have had no problems with it. I run with the gain set at 6.
