I got about the same deal on my 2003 sierra HD now mine is a reg cab standard 5 speed manual shift with the 6.0. The truck had 65.000 miles and I got it for 11.500.This truck runs very well and is still very tight.I was shopping around and to me it was a good deal as other dealers wanted 16.000 for simiular used trucks with that milage.

Go for it if you gave it a good test drive and everything seems ok. I also think trucks like these will be hard to sell as fuel prices keep edging up.The buyer will get better deals.

WHAT???

It's a great deal if it's clean (carfax/etc)... 70k miles is not high miles on an 03. AVG retail for that is over $19,000 in my region.

I am a car wholesaler by trade....

beast77,

That is a good price and good miles. and here's the thing. If you like the truck and you trust it's history then get it. I probably paid 2k more than I should have for my 02nd cc long bed a few years back but it took me forever to find one so when I did I bought it.

as for the trucks getting cheaper cause of gas going up......I doubt that will ever happen... Ever price a suburban lately?

Thanks for all your help, im going pay the man this morning!!! I know about the gas sucking on this truck but who buys a big block for good gas milage, you have to pay to play!!! Thanks

Go buy the truck, I just picked mine up 2 weeks ago and love it. 2004 gmc crew 8.1 ally! :uhoh:

Good for you - that seems like a screaming deal to me (at least for my area). I can tell you for a fact that truck would sell for about $16-18k in my area, depending on the options. I don't even want to tell you what I paid for my 2004 (GMC SLT, 6.0, cc, 55k miles at the time), but needless to say it was a LOT more than what you're getting yours for.

That is a good deal.

I purchased my truck a month ago for $11,000. I talked him down from $15K.

2002 2500HD 4x4 Crew cab with long bed.

8.1L engine.

Allison tranny.

93K miles

6 inch super lift.

Air bags for rear shocks.

Then I added 20 inch rims with 37in Nitto Mudd Grappler tires.

The truck is a beast.

That's a great price for a truck in top-notch condition (along with some of the other deals mentioned here).

For comparison, I know a guy that recently purchased an '01 ECSB 8.1/Allison 4x4 LS with 44K miles for $19K. Granted, it has very low miles and looks new, but that's a lot of money to spend.

I purchased my '01 CCSB 8.1/Allison 2x4 LS with 93K last year for $12.5K - a great price compared to others within a 100-mile radius or so. Granted, I was specifically looking for an '01 or '02 in very clean condition, so I might have gotten a slightly better price on an '03 or '04. The truck I purchased had a few upgrades - dual exhaust, Transfer Flow fuel tank, billet grille, step bars - but was basically stock.

Love the big block. It's a hoss.

man - I hate it when I type a reply and lose it....

That is a good price. A buddy just picked up a 2002 2500HD crew cab 4x4 LT with the 6L for $13K. I paid the same for a 01' burb 8.1L LT - fully loaded. His had 70K, mine had 85K.

The 8.1 doesn't do so bad on gas, really. So far I've been seeing 10-11 around town and 13 on the freeway doing ~70. Compares to 12-13 and 15-16 for our previous 1500 5.3L / 4.10 burb. Both 4x4.

The tq is amazing tho - just a blip of the throttle and it will jump from 65 to 75 on the highway. It is also nice that the burb has a 36 gallon tank - it still gives very good cruising range.

anyway - you are going to love it.

btw - our 2500 burb 8.1L is an occasional use vehicle - only used when we need the space on the weekends to haul stuff or people or both, or tow my 6Klb race car trailer - which is does even over hilly roads quite easily. Even with the 3.73 gears.

Beast 77, that's a good buy! This winter I saw the same truck at a dealer, less miles and some extras, but they were asking $23,000. If your truck is in good shape, I think you got a great price. Good Luck.

    • This is a 1/2 ton thing ONLY.  All HDs 2020-2026 have the two speed transfer case, with Autotrac as an option.     1/2 tons 2019-2026, regular 4x4s come with a single speed case (no 4LO!), and trucks with Z71 ordered, or all Trail Boss trucks come with the 2 speed case.  2 speed case is also an option on WT, and is also standard on High Country.
    • 2013 5.3 still to this day calls for the PF48 filter.  Which as a 15psi bypass pressure.     There is a TSB, 17-NA-157 that talks about the PF-63 and PF-64 filters which have a higher bypass rating of 22psi.    TSB HERE - temp.xml   "Beginning in 2012, the oil pumps began to regulate main gallery feedback instead of pump out pressure. This means that the oil pump now does not begin to regulate until pressure is built up to the main gallery. This change reduces the amount of time it takes to provide oil to the engine bearing and lifters during extreme cold start conditions.  Main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are present on the following engine families which use Spin-on oil filters: Small Gas Engine (SGE), Large Gas Engine (LGE), High Feature (HFV6) Gen2 and Small Block Gen5 gasoline engines. These engines with the main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are factory built with an ACDelco® oil filters"   It also calls out what engines use those filters.  The gen 4 small blocks were not on that list (LMG, LC9, L9H, L92, L94, L20, L96).  Gen 5 small blocks use the higher pressure filter.          That all said...   Your 7045 Napa filter is the PF63 equivalent, with 22psi bypass.  You are already using the higher bypass pressure filter.  You CAN keep using it, you don't technically have to use it though.
    • Do you know WHY the filter relief setting was increased to 22 psig?    When the new system goes into the second stage the pump volume ramps up considerably. It was found that the 15 psi filter bypass setting put the filter in bypass on a warm engine when the second stage was activated. Raising the filter bypass setting forced the filter to do what it designed to do. Filter. Preventing debris from circulating during high load, high rpm operation.    So next question is how did GM find this out? VLOM/lifter failures and a deep dive by Melling Corp.    Last question. Is it required? Look at it like this; a motor may be equipped with a rev limiter. But it only works if the set point in reached. That 22 psig setting only matters if the pressure differential across the filter media exceeds 15 psig during normal warm operation. Second stage kicks in around 3000-3500 rpm.    I can't answer your question because I don't know you and how you use the truck. But I think there is enough information here to let you decide for yourself. 😉
    • Probably not their first rodeo, so it should go as planned most likely.  Typically the service manager or tech doing the swap will put some seat time to shake it down after they get it all put back together.  We usually put 50-100mi before we hand them back so if something happens, its not after you get it.  A coolant leaks, oil leaks, a ground left off or loose, vibration, etc.     The new engines so far have been good?  There's been a couple that have popped out there again (the replacement engine) but most have been okay.
