My First "battle Scar"

Well, my relatively new truck is no longer flawless. I was backing out of my spot at work, and I couldn't see it but there was one of those decorative rocks right behind me past the curb. I saw the curb in my mirror but not the rock, and I backed up too far and *thunk* As I pulled away I heard metal scrape against rock and thought the worst.

Luckily its not too bad, no real body damage. I thought my hitch cover was going to be obliterated but it is only slightly scratched on the edge. the real damage is on the plastic fascia on the rear bumper:

I have no idea how or if that can be repaired, or how I wold go about getting it replaced. It seems like that is just a piece of plastic that pops into the bumper, but I'm guessing its not cheap. So I either just forget it and try to ignore it, try to repair it or try to replace the part. Any suggestions?

That sucks James, I am sure sorry. I thought the LTs had back up sensors ?? I am not sure about these ones, but the one on my Tahoe that "somebody" tagged on a flowerbox cost me $125

Nope, no reverse sensing, I have the LT1 package so thats probably why. I never thought I'd need it, honestly. I don't know why whoever landscaped the store's lot decided huge jagged rocks right at the edge of the curbs was a good idea.

Thanks, WVSilverado, thats cheaper than I thought it would be. I'll have to pick one up when I have some extra cash.

The ironic thing...I was going to back out and go right, which would have caused me to have plenty of room to turn around...but there was a NBS Sierra ahead and to my left with the chrome accent mirrors I want so I was going to drive by and check it out.

So basically, trying to decide on an appearance mod caused me to make something else on the truck looks worse.

Be thankful that you hit the cheap part BlakSilv, I tapped a "decorative" tree on the edge of my driveway with the expensive chrome part.

Well James, welcome to the club....

I would doubt that this would be covered under warranty.

First, I would take a razor blade with a stiff back, like used in box cutters and get rid of the build up at the bottom of the upper abrasion, lay it as flat as you can and shave off the fluff.

Then, there are polish compounds available for engineered plastics/vinals that should take out most of the ridges in the two abrasions.

It's gonna be a tough job, because of such a small area...Take your time, and just try to work the abraded areas....Get a seat so you can sit, a radio, oh, an a cold one..

Then use something like armorall to coat the area, and then coat the whole fascia.

It'll probably take a few applications.

It won't come out perfect, and you know its there, but it'll look better.

Fred, that tree wouldn't of been made out of some of your spare wheels would it?

Couldn't help..Steve..

Awww....Here we go!.....Pics, we need pics!

Blaksilvr....

Even though the manual says to remove the front fascia before 4wheelin, guess what?...Yep, was up on Blue mt. here in central Pa. and of course had to back up to turn around...well, I heard a loud pop, finished my turn, got out to look, and the passengers side was pulled out about 50°.

Didn't break but had a he** of a crease in it.

Salvaged one lock pin, got 5 new ones, and you wouldn't believe it, but the crease is almost gone, anyone else looking at it would have a hard time picking it out.

Steve
