Nbs Silverado Fog Lights Install

Well fellows,

Finally I have all the parts to finish this mod. What a pain in tha arse!!! It's gotta be one of the dumbest and most expensive mods you could ever do, but I had to have them. Recommend you do some research before buying your truck and make sure you have all the options you want before you leave the dealer's lot.

Anyways, after buying all the parts from GMpartsdirect (approx. $485), I had to get the end caps painted to match my truck (another $189). Probably another $100 to get the computer programmed for the fog lights.

Now the task at hand is getting them installed. I got the complete headlight assembly wiring harness with the fog lights, so I have to replace the original with this one. Still not sure how difficult this is going to be, hopefully the wiring harness is accessible and easy to replace and not hiding behind the radiator or something dumb like that. Daddy or M Cueva, you guys worked around the headlights just recently any words of wisdom on how to get this done in the less painful way? If you have any words of advise on how to do that please feel free to shim in.

With the gas prices still going up, I think this is going to be my last mod in a while (wife can't handle it anymore  ) Although I really like that leveling kit mod...damn it

This is one of the mods I had on my list and I really am looking forward to this thread. Will you please make a detailed write up of the process? Can you also provide a parts list with Part numbers? May the force be with you and GOOD LUCK!!!!:crackup::crackup:

Might I just add that I wouldnt have added a new factory harness and then got it reprogrammed... I wuld have had them hard wired to the parking lights instead and it would be less of a hassle and cheaper. I hated the factory fog lights because you had to manually turn them on when you get in the truck... so now I have them wired to the running lamps and they are always on, I wouldnt have paid $500 and then have to worry about pushing a button to show them off..

Your really gonna be mad when I tell you this...But GM is coming out with an accessory fog lamp package for the GMT900 trucks.

There not out yet but they do have part numbers for them,The kits for the 1/2-tons and GMC HD's are going to list for $335.00 and the kits for the Chevy HD's list for $399.00.

I heard rumors about that, but I don't know how they are going to have a kit when the endcaps are painted. Oh well too late anyways

Now that's a thought worth considering. I looked today on how everything it's routed and to replace the harness is going to be a major event. BUT if I just install the wires directly into the parking lights that seems a lot easier. Do I need to worry about grounding them?

The kit comes with new endcaps painted already,You order the kit by the color of your truck (Except for the GMC's where you just get the lights and the HD Chevy's that have chrome endcaps)

Think I am going to have to go with this kit when it comes out. The chrome end caps should bolt right on to the 1500 with no problems, right? I really like the look of the HD front end.

I don't know about that,I think the endcaps on the HD's are taller than the ones on the 1/2-tons.

Mine are both ground and powered (2 wires on both sides) to the power and ground from the parking lights, during the day when I hit the fog light switch the fogs come on (because the switch enables both fogs and parking lamps) so the parking lamps power on the fogs... and they are on when my headlights are on... No need to push the button at all for me... This is just a suggestion and an easy resolution to installing them. Running a new harness would be a bitch because you basically have to remove the bumper and headlights to get them all back there, my way requires you fishing a total of 4 wires, 2 on each side to the stock harness lights. I suggest the top corner lights. I have a GMC so I dont know if the coloring is different so u might need to have a trial and error with finding the correct wires. Good luck bro!

Maka,

Thanks for the feedback, I think I'll follow your approach. Definetly a lot easier than my original plan. So you basically match wires blk w/ blk etc?

How did to tap into the parking lights wires? Any special connectors that splice into the existing wire?

Thanks for your help!

Can you take a picture of how they are wire to the parking lights? I have the factory fogs and do't want to push the button everytime I want them on. I have tried to get a response on using the diode system by jumping the relays but nobody would write back. I might could do it by cutting the wires and direct hook up to the parking lights. Thanks
