buy a diablosport programmer and you will get other benefits other than the speed limiter removal

Posted

Just about any handheld tuner can do that. And obviously a custom tune as well. I'm not aware of anything else that only adjusts your speed limiter. But if you're planning on going over 100mph... I'd think you'd want the extra HP, shift points, shift pressure, and various other performance enhancements to make the trip into triple digits that much better. You know, on a race track, of course. :D

Also don't forget to check the speed rating on your tires.

what is the absolute cheapest power programmer you can find, i don't want to spend $400 on something that might give me 20 extra horse if I feel like running premium at $3.50 a gallon

Just remember your tires are only rated for 100 mph and going over that will risk you and others lives.

well as long as I keep running 10 ply 285s I would immagine I would be safe, plus its not like I'm gonna be doing this all day everyday

Wait4mePerformance - google them. Mine was $158.10 shipped, yours might be cheaper since it's an OBS.

will getting the ecm tuned raise the speed limiter though?

Yep. That's pretty much assumed with a custom tune. If they don't ask, it's been raised.

sweet, so how long does it usually take to send it in and get it tuned because I really can't have my truck out of commission too long

it still up to the speed rating and QUALITY of the tire. another factor is weight of the vehicle. you can a Z rated tires in your truck, but if the tire weight rating is only 1700 lbs per tire, and your truck weight is 2300 lb per tire, then you will be over loading the tires and they will most likely to fail.

as the pic below, the right rear tire came apart do to over loaded vehicle/excessive speed, 90 mph when the tire blew. we picked up everything that was in it and weighed it and no counting the passengers it weighed 10,055 lbs. there was 5 people in this, 3 went to the hospital and 2 went to the morgue

all this is just pick your tires well...

Wow, very sad. The moral of the story is: You have to use the right equipment. You shouldn't take a knife to a gun fight.

Just be very careful!
