Antenna On 2008 Sierra 1500 Doesn't "fit"

I just bought a new 2008 GMC Sierra 1500. Problem is the antenna only screws in about 1/2 turn. Is this normal for this model, or did the dealer loose the original and put some crap antenna on? Even with pliers its hard to turn, and I didn't want to force it to much. The reason I'm concerned is because at least with FM stations, the sound sounds perfect one min, then sounds different and "further" away another min, but without static. Hard to explain. ANyone have this issue?

Mine used to screw on much farther than that before I moved it under the hood. It really should screw on there at least 10 or so revolutions. I'd go back to the dealer and ask them to get you a new one.

My antenna screws on all the way and my stereo does the same thing with the sound, If you figure out why it does that let me know, I figured it was something loose in the stereo or a loose wire. It would be great to have it fixed.

Mine had a loose connection behind the dash. The dealer fixed it a couple of weeks ago.

Do This:Install the correct antenna mast.

Don't Do This:DO NOT replace the antenna base.

 

 

A design change was made to the antenna base and antenna mast starting in October 2005. The radio antenna base size increased from 6 mm (0.23 in) to 7 mm (0.27 in) for improved stability and radio reception.

 

 

There are two different design antenna masts available. The antenna masts can be distinguished by the outer bottom of the antenna mast. The first design antenna mast will have a six-sided hex design and a 6 mm (0.23 in) inside diameter thread. The second design antenna mast will have two flats on the outer mast and a 7 mm (0.27 in) inside diameter thread.

 

The second design antenna mast will have more resistance when installing due to the interference fit of the threads. A wrench will be needed to install the antenna mast.

 

Important: Use a protective tape or a cloth inside an adjustable wrench when installing the mast. This will help prevent damage to the painted coating on the mast.

 

Tighten the antenna mast.

 

Tighten

Tighten to 6 N·m (53 lb in).

Not sure bout my ant. My radio does have the sound issue you describe. I had it in to the dealer, and there was supposedly a loose connection behind the radio/dash. I don't think its fixed 100% though.
