Silverado/sierra Bumper Interchangeability

So, has anyone ever taken a look at the mounting system for both the Chevy and GMC GMT-900 front bumper? I've been thinking of swapping mine out cause I like the solid chrome look better. From what I've seen they're pretty much the same dimensions other than maybe the grille shape?

Identical frames, maybe need different bumper mounts but doable, need to modify the plastic piece above the chrome bumper for sure, i seen a 06 duramax gmc, with a 06 chevy bumper, they left the plastic spacer between the grill and bumper but had to trim it off in the middle

That is the main reason that I went with the GMC over the Chevy. The 3-piece bumper does not look good to me at all. I think it looks really bad on the Chevys when all the pieces are chrome. Its just too much.

I looked into this about a year ago, and it's not an easy (i.e. cheap) swap. From what I remember, everything goes together completely different on the GMC vs. the Chevrolet. Not only do you have to swap the bumpers, but you've got to swap out everything below it too (e.g fog lamps, fog lamp housings, etc.). It would have cost $1K-$1,500 for all the parts at our local GMC dealership.

 

FWIW, I always thought our Chevrolet GMT-900's looked like they had "fangs," so I ended up painting the chrome "middle" piece and the black piece below it to match the rest of the truck.

Well, I don't have fog lamps on my bumper so it should be alright. I guess I'm gonna keep an eye on ebay and for sale forums for a 07+ bumper and just take the plunge. I can do a fair bit of modification and have access to plenty of cutting tools.

I'm going to try to find a couple of good pics from the front and Photoshop it together for you the way you are planning. I really don't think this is where you want to spend your money though. Even if the bumper matches up, it's going to look odd, IMO. If I can find some good pics, we'll know soon enough.

Thanks for the photoshop, it gives me a better picture of what to expect haha.

 

I do plan on adding some kind of brush guard/grille guard as well so it will be offset in appearance somewhat. I just don't like the solid color caps on the sides of my bumper.

 

Any part#s for the bumper components would be appreciated if someone has them on hand, I've looked through some of the gm-parts catalogs but none have anything bumper-related other than misc bracketry. I also plan on visiting my local GMC dealer and seeing what the general cost range is gonna be.

I think that's beautiful. You should work for Chevy in the design room. If they would have looked like that when I went looking to buy my new truck, I might have drove home a Silverado instead of a Sierra. It would have been a tough choice to say the least.
