Well 2" Leveling Kit Not Enough For 33's

I had a feeling it was going to happen, I finally got my 305/55/20s on the truck annddd they rub like crazy. I am just posting this up for others because I know I have posted and read several threads where people say that it "Should" work but its not even close.

I had a feeling that it would rub but maybe only at full lock, but its not even close to fully turned and they rub hard. Seems like i woudl have to take away ALOT of material from the fender to clear it.

BTW the wheels are 8.5" wide KMC Rockstars, Stockish type offset, (they dont stick out or anything so 33's would rub with stock wheels too.

Excuse me if this is common knowledge, but I was just posting this up for the next guy so he knows what works and doesn't.

Well that sucks. What are you going to do? Why would people tell you that if it wasn't true or they weren't sure?

I have a 3" BL and 2" leveling kit and I have 33.45" tires on my truck and have ZERO issues.

Throw a BL on it, they're under $300.

Im not sure of what the game plan is, Originally I wanted to do the 3" rough country suspension lift which was supposed to clear 33's according to them, but after reading about all the issues with the 08's on the thread in here I decided against that.

I dont know if I like the look of body lift do you have any pics of yours you cant see much in sig pic. I might end up going 4" suspension lift, but I really didnt want to go high with it, (I use the truck to put bikes and sleds in and I dont want to make it any harder than it has to be.)

I have smaller tires than most guys who have 6" suspension lifts, but I think my truck looks nearly as high as their truck if we had the same sized tires.

Here are some photos to give you an idea.

I think if you put those tires on your stock 20" wheels it would clear!! The KMC wheels probably have less backspacing and are wider so they stick out a little more than stock. You say it don't stick out but with stock rims they are sucked in more than 1" or so. That would make a big difference if there is an 1-2" difference with backspacing and width of the rims.

On my truck I have a 2" rough country kit with 285/70/17 tires on stock rims and have alot of clearance. I am even thinking of a taller tire by the end of summer.

I think it is a rim issue not tires size.

its the width too. i fit 285/70/17s with just cranking the torsion bars with no problems. 33s fit if theyre the right width

See thread regarding different height on either side re: torsion bars.

Good news, (well for me anyways) I *think* I got it to work, I took a better look in the daytime and it looked trimable. I trimmed out fender lining right along the actual metal fender up maybe about 2.5 "s and then kinda made a triangle cut down so its another 2.5 inches across.

I would call it a medium trim job, (maybe minor, but not "aggressive trimming") so its def. not a big deal at all.

IN reply to you posts,

Alllblkdout: Your body lift looks good, mainly because your step bars are pretty much masking the extra frame that you see on a body lift (thats what i HATE!) so good job to you. I would consider a body lift for mine but maybe if it was a 1.5 inch lift, because like I said I load alot of powersports toys in the bed and also tow a small trailer and my 5" drop hitch reciever is already maxed out.

07blackZ71: Yes I believe they MAY clear with the stockers, but how wide are the stockers?? These tires are a 305, and thats a 12" wide tire, I dont know if I would run them on anything smaller than 8.5" wide wheel. I really wish my wheels were 9". They still sit pretty good, but I think a wider wheels would help them wear a little more evenly. THe backspacing and offset of these wheels are close to stock, but they do maybe stick out a tad farther than stock, (maybe 1 inch max).

Chakis24: Yes you are right it is because of the width, Im sorry I was ambiguous when I was referring to 33"s I tend to think of 33x12.5's and 305/55's. (33.3x12"). I would be a slimmer tire would work fine w. no trimming whatsover, (but I like the wider look, these tires go just about right to the fender maybe stick out 1/4" or so, perfect in my opinion)

It also has to do with the amount of tread, the are Pro Comp Xtreme all/terrains, which are the most aggressive A/T tires I have ever seen. ( I was pleasantly suprised when I the got dropped off) 20/16ths of tread on my indicator!!

I will try to get some pics up, I know that when I was looking for KMC rockstar pics on the new chevys I was hard pressed to find some, THe only ones I found were on super lifted show trucks and nothing like mine. I love the look of them and now that I think I got them trimmed good they should be great. THese tires are also supposed 2 have a 40k tread wear warranty so we will see how long they hold up. (25K and I will be happy) Thats prolly about 3 years for me, I dont drive the truck alot
