Locating 6'6 Truck Bed Online Not Short Box

Hi GM truck owners! Question? I'm looking for a 2000 to 2003 sierra or silverado 1500 extended cab 4x4 standard box and it is not easy to determine if a truck has a standard box or short box "online" looking at photos. I have seen lots of ads but would like a good method of determining the box length as a lot of ads leave out what box length the truck has ? I think the best way would be to find a truck of interest and then use the VIN to determine box length but what # or #'s determine this ;if any? Any shure fire ways to determine this ? I don't want to waste time contacting sellers if the truck is not suitable. In addition searching takes enough time on a rural dial-up connection. One further point; does the z71 package enclude locking differential and skid plates? Hope you guys can help me find my "1500 ext cab 4x4 standard box ". Thanks for any input

If you can, get the VIN numbers and post em here and I will pull the build sheets for each one

When you see a shortbed, it's pretty obvious, they look really stubby. I know mike ^ posted some pictures of one a while back, and the porportions are just weird. You'll know it if you see it.

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I think all ext. cab trucks have the standard or long bed. I don't think a short box is available for extended cabs.

^ Look up. They are very rare though.

Here is what an extended cab looks like with a 5'8" bed (Stupid if you ask me):

I hope I don't confuse you on this,Try to keep up!!

1999-2005 extended-cab trucks are either going to be short-bed (6'6") or long-bed (8')

The "standard-bed" designation didn't exist until the 2006 model year when GM started offering the short-bed on the extended-cabs,at that time the short-bed became the 5'8" bed length, the standard-bed became the 6'6" bed length, and of course the long-bed is the 8' bed length.

Since you are looking for a 2000 to 2003 truck you only have to worry about looking for a short-bed (6'6") truck.

The 5'8" bed (What is now called the short-bed) did not exist until the 2004 model year when GM started offering a 1/2-ton crew-cab truck.

The VIN number itself will not tell what bed length the truck is (I.E. theres no number in it that designates the bed size) However if you list the VIN of a truck your looking at I can run a build sheet and tell you what bed it has.

Also, from '99 to '03 the Z71 package DID NOT include the locking differential (G80),it was a separate option,Skid plates (NZZ) are part of the Z71 package.

Actually some of them don't look too bad,It depends on the color and stance of the truck. A Black or Red Z71 with the Aluminum wheels (Not the chrome steelies) that sets nice & level looks pretty sharp in that combo.

Now I personally wouldn't buy one,I need the bed space that the 6'6" bed gives me,but some look OK.
