Help! Hub/bearing Removal

Recommended Posts

Looking for some help removing hub/bearing assy from 2003 gmc 2wd. Anyone replaced the front wheel bearing/hub assy? How did you get the old unit out? I have tried some heat and a hammer, but was wondering if there is a trick to this?

Thanks in advance

try pb blast and a hammer

Is it safe to assume that you have removed the three bolts in the flange and it is just stuck?

Make sure you have all the bolts out, then just slam it from behind. I had to use a 3 pound sledge. Just hit behind one side, then move to the other, and keep going back and forth. I thought it was never going to come off, but you just have to smack the hell out of it. You're not re-using it anyway, so go to town.

Remove the three bolts. Spray penetrating (PB, Marvel, etc).

Now Bang the threaded flanges with large punch and hammer, on bearing, clock and counterclockwise. Once it starts moving back and forth, pry it off.

Clean the bore, with sand paper or schochbrite, (sp) and apply Never-sieze before installation of new bearing.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I have soaked w/ PB and used a 3 lb sledge with no success. I did also try rotating clockwise/counterclockwise with a large punch and sledge. It wont budge at all. I guess the upstate New York winters have rusted the thing in there solid!
