Bluetooth Options For 2008 Silverado

Recommended Posts

Okay I installed my BlueStar 2010 in my 2007 GMC Sierra. It took about 4 hours. Some issues I found were that the bezel around my radio didn't just pop off. Several times I thought the thing would break. Another thing is that the phone (htc hero) says it's paired but not connected. However it works okay. It did lock up today and sometimes the connections seem noisey. Hope no one minds but I made a video of my installation and posted it on youtube. I referenced this site as an important source of information.

I posted this video because when I was doing my research it was hard to find this kind of help.

Like everyone else interested in bluetooth for GM vehicles, I have an 09 Silverado. GM is adamant about not providing the VCIM to anyone except those who have it from the factory. My GM parts and services manager each tried to get the 20783877 part. Theft, fire, or failure is the only way they can get one. VIN plus core return charge. My dealer offered to upgrade my 09 for a 2010. My suggestion is junk yards or any other brand. I am a GM retiree and have good contacts with GM (Delco-Delphi) but GM buys this from another provider. Anxious to find the part. Thanks for the long forum. It's been an education. BTW in a Silverado without a console the VCIM is under the front dash panel below the heater/ac controls. Just remove the bottom panel.

OUTSTANDING! Why would anyone mind?! Very thoughtful of you to take the time to do that for everyone. I have been on the fence about taking the plug to get the new BlueStar and you video definitely helped. Of course they are now on backorder, figures. Oh well, I can wait a few weeks anyway.

Fortunately, the NBS is much easier to get at like revbush said. When I removed the dash to put the mp3 adapter on the back of the radio I had to remove the button panel that exposed the onstar module. Should be a 20 minute job.

Thanks again for the video.

Being an insider and having a direct link to the people who make the decisions can you educate the rest of us who have 07/08 non Bluetooth GMT900 vehicles as to why GM will not let us have a Bluetooth VCIM? or at least offer a package like they did with the transition to analog....Bluetooth VCIM and I we sign up for OnStar 12 month contract....not the best but Im willing to do it.

Delphi offers a module to upgrade the 07/08 VCIM units but Delphi wont sell it to JOE PUBLIC and GM denies it exists........holy crap whats the big deal.......does anyone at GM think not providing us with Bluetooth is going to make us buy new trucks?.......its going to make most of us buy Ford trucks with SYNC the most advanced HMI system on the market............just check out the 2011 Explorer.

I love my 2007 Denali but GM is forcing me to look elsewhere......

I would not get too worried or loose sleep about bluetooth and it not being available on your vehicle. In another year or so something better will be out. Hell we got along just fine without bluetooth for most of our lives, why get so angry about it now?

I would be, but the Bluestar 2010 is not 100% complete yet imho. "Mr. Costar" still has not got the call display to work, which is why i won't buy one yet in case by some miracle i find a used vcim with bluetooth.

Because in my retarded state they passed a Handsfree law that ban's in any way touching your phone on the road. Not even supposed to press any buttons just to answer the call, so a really clear and easy to use system is necessary if you want to continue with the convenience of getting in a few calls on the road.

BLUESTAR GROUP BUY HAS BEEN GIVEN THE GO AHEAD!!!!

Hello Guys,

Just got an email from Chris and he said he will set up a group buy for us. I've emailed him asking specifics such as price & timeline on when we need to get our orders in. As I understand it now he sets up a special website for us that we order through.

I'm not positive on this, but I'm guessing we all need to get our orders placed within a certain time limit for the group buy to become official. In the past, group buys have needed a minimum of 10 buyers to qualify, so I'm trying to organize a list of everyone who wishes to be involved. Please contact me either here with a private message, or via my email ([email protected]) with your contact information so I can get an updated list together and we can get our BlueStar 2010's!

Looking forward to hearing from you all!

GROUP BUY PRICING IS HERE!

Ok guys the time is here. The price for the group buy is officially $225, if you want to be a part of it I need you to email me on my regular email. It's too time consuming logging into the different thread email accounts, and they're not user friendly for organizing something like this. I promise I won't use your email for anything other than this group buy, frankly I'm too busy to do anything like that!

Email me - [email protected]

Let me know if you are in so we can get it started. Our TIMELINE TO ORDER IS LIMITED once it starts so I want to make sure we are organized and people get their orders in on time.

Looking forward to hearing from you - Brandon

Nope. Your going to pay your $167 cell phone ticket because you are responsible (NOT GM) what is wrong with using a headset for your cell phone like everyone else out there does? If it bothers you so much to have something in or over your ear, then use the speakerphone option on your cell phone, but don't go blasting GM for not making your life more convenient. Their job is to make vehicles, not to make talking on your cell phone more easier. That's for the cell phone companies. :rollin:

The cell-phone manufacturer provides the device then its up to the vehicle manufacturer to integrate that device into their product.

Have a look at Ford SYNC, Ford Work Solutions, Ford My Touch (HMI) Human Machine Interface.

I would suggest Ford has taken a different approach as to their responsibility with regards to providing technology in their vehicles.

Probably why they have the best product and win all the awards at CES.

An ear-kit worn by the driver doesn't offer true hands free which the law in most areas requires.

The complaint of most on this forum is that there is relatively cheap fix for most of the GMT900 vehicles but GM has chosen to restrict this Bluetooth VCIM part which flies in the face of a company thats listening to the needs of its customers.
