Bluetooth Options For 2008 Silverado

Recommended Posts

For 2009, GM will be offering Bluetooth capability on the HD trucks via Onstar Generation 8.

The 2008 vehicles have Onstar Generation 7. A possible solution would be the capability to

upgrade Onstar from Generation 7 to 8. Keep an open eye to this possible option.

The hardware soluitons via Coastal Tech and their associated Bluetooth adaptor is a possibility.

Hey Chris do you know if a 09 Pontiac BT VCIM #20788691 will work on our GMT900 trucks ?

I would not get too worried or loose sleep about bluetooth and it not being available on your vehicle. In another year or so something better will be out. Hell we got along just fine without bluetooth for most of our lives, why get so angry about it now?

Great so your going to pay my $167 cell phone ticket because I wasn't using a hands free kit?.........grab a new calendar its 2010 and almost every other car maker offers BT technology in their basic vehicles except Government Motors GM.

We have no choice in most States and Provinces its the law.

Nope. Your going to pay your $167 cell phone ticket because you are responsible (NOT GM) what is wrong with using a headset for your cell phone like everyone else out there does? If it bothers you so much to have something in or over your ear, then use the speakerphone option on your cell phone, but don't go blasting GM for not making your life more convenient. Their job is to make vehicles, not to make talking on your cell phone more easier. That's for the cell phone companies. :uhoh:

In ear bluetooth headsets suck for the person on the other end. The speaker on most phones is not that great. What is the big deal. Its a part that alot of us are willing to pay for. It isnt going to hurt them to let us buy it? I dont like little screens on my dash like parrot or any other. GM needs to get off that all mighty throne and listen to us the consumer, they have done what they have wanted for a long time and we bailed them out. It is not going to change my mind about buying a GM product but I dont like FORD or any other. But there is alot of people that do not have brand loyalty.

I just ordered a VCIM 20783877 today from a dealership. The guy told me he could only order it if it was due to theft or fire, but he said he had a way around it, and could order it for me no problem. This was a GM dealer, and the guy worked in the parts department! Big Score.

But the question I have is.....why in the hell won't GM just sell us this part so we can upgrade!!!! They could make a ton of money off selling this part so we can do the bluetooth upgrade. It makes no sence to me.

GROUP BUY UPDATE! Just wanted to make sure everyone knows that the BlueStar 2010 Group Buy has begun. If you didn't get the email from me please let me know so I can send you the information again.

Thanks - Brandon ([email protected])

Lots on EBay right now boyz....just got new one for $210

Brewboy beat me to notifying everone. The same guy on ebay appears to get the 20783877's. Got one myself for $210. Antenna for $20. Should have it in a few days. Will let you know how the install and function works. I've had the Scosche Bluefusion for about a year. It worked good, but wasn't factory. Guess I'll put it up on Ebay.

There's a guy on another blog talking about how he can reprogram the 20783877's to your truck. I understand the bluetooth works regardless. Don't care if the OnStar works or reports my truck. Won't be paying that gentlemen for his programming.

I got same deal......pretty good considering these are new units and OEM pricing is $268 and $29 ........dont need programming apparently as they have never been in a vehicle so OnStar can do it via their system....will advise how it installs ASAP

I wonder where the guy on Ebay is getting them? He must work inside GM someplace where he steals them or something. That price is less than you can get them from GM for. I wish those would have been on Ebay when I ordered mine! I don't think Onstar will be able to program it without you taking it in to the dealership....but if they can....let me know. Mine is brand new and has never been in a vehicle before. I actually like having the Onstar and want it to work.
