Well I took mine to the dealer today with no luck. He couldn't get the red light to go away, or the Onstar to work. Looks like I am going to have to ship mine to Chris White and see if he can get it to work. They charged me $76 for their time. Money down the tube. Damn.

Yes but a few others drove away from the dealership with same issues and the next day they had green lights as it says it can take 24-48hrs to activate......I would wait before shipping just to be sure

Just wanted to give you all a heads up on part number 20827036 VCIM. it is installed in my 07 Escalade and it works as it should the only thing that I don't see is numbers comming up on the nav.. my wifes 09 Malibu has that on her radio.. but eh.. it works great.. so I am a happy little camper

ok quick edit.. the numbers come up in the DIC and it even states "have a call from ..." when any of the stored name tags are calling

Its under another GM-Trucks Forum topic just below from this one......here is the post

My OnStar works!!!!! I tried it when I first left the dealer and it did not work so I thought it was a no go. Then I read the post that it might take a while to process so I tried it again this morning and BINGO. Everything works now. Bluetooth, OnStar, and voice dialing to my Blackberry.

found this tsb:

01-08-46-002c

it tells the dealer how to reprogram a replacement vcim...

think it will help?

This bulletin is being revised to add models and update the programming procedure.

Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 01-08-46-002B

(Section 08 - Body and Accessories).

When using a service replacement for the OnStar® Vehicle Communication Interface Module (VCIM), the module will need to be programmed for the option content specific to the vehicle being serviced. Failure to perform this initial set-up could result in degraded voice recognition or microphone performance, Driver Information Center (DIC) text display and/or inability of the OnStar® system to mute the radio as well as audio problems for the user.

Important: Following the OnStar® Vehicle Communication Interface module replacement, you must contact the OnStar® Call Center via the vehicle OnStar® button and speak to an advisor to update the customer's OnStar® account. The advisor will require new VCIM Station ID (STID) and Electronic Serial Number (ESN), located on the label on the module. Failure to update the customer's account will result in the OnStar® system not functioning as designed.

Programming Procedure

1. Connect the Tech 2® to the vehicle.

2. Select Diagnostics.

3. Select the model year.

4. Select vehicle type (car, truck, incomplete, etc.)

5. Select Body.

6. Build the vehicle following the Tech 2® screens, choosing the appropriate vehicle options.

7. Select OnStar® from the menu.

8. Select Special Function.

9. Select Set-up new OnStar®.

The Tech has to run the TIS2WEB program on it in addition to the above procedure in order to get OnStar to work.

Using the Tech2 procedure above along with TIS2WEB through the MDI still failed.

Have you confirmed that they have successfully done a OnStar hardware swap? The first attempt on mine was not successful. The second attempt using a different computer worked. I assumed the second computer had newer software.
