Bluetooth Options For 2008 Silverado

It would be my guess that OnStar does not intend on anyone getting the OnStar functions to work on a Bluetooth unit installed in pre 09 vehicles. They seem to be vague about it and the dealers don’t really know what they are looking for and don’t seem to get any helpful support from OnStar to get it working.

Personally I’m very glad to have the Bluetooth working. I’ll keep watching out of curiosity to see if one of you guys gets the OnStar portion reprogrammed.

One of my fears would be that while the dealer is plugged in and or OnStar communicates with the box, they will inadvertently or “intentionally” disable the Bluetooth.

Good luck to all.

If you got the red light thats a good sign if you want OnStar at a later date......OnStar reprograms their module over the air to turn it green. Its only if you got no light then theres a problem.....good job....I bought mine from same guy and I want OnStar so Im happy now to hear you had success.

Not true. You have to take it to the dealer to have the Onstar re-programed.

I stand corrected.....you were right...... I went to dealer and spent $60 for 1 hr programming but left with a red light.

For the guys who bought new VCIMs from Ebay don't waste your money at the dealership, first, they don't really understand and second, it wont work.

Just for info, I could not find the VCIM listed so used a VCIM (25990227) out of a 2009 CTS on a 2007 Escalade EXT with Nav and rear DVD.....Bluetooth worked fully. Even shows number in DIC...Onstar does not work for me but not that concerned with it. The only problem was the VCIM while physically the same size has 3 mounting ears which interfered with installation....Sawed them off. May take it out an send it to White Automotive.

I have read there were issues on this and other sites but cant provide exact threads.....

How have you found the customer service at Coastaltech?.......non existant I bet?

I bought a lockpick 2 years ago and will never do business with them again, they have the worst customer service of any online business there is.

You should be able to call up their tech support and they walk you through any issues but not at Coastaltech.......good luck :shakehead:

Uh oh. I was a little worried about this. If true, I may have some problems as I have a GMX-320 installed. Can't get rid of it either, as I used it to install an aftermarket backup camera to my navigation radio.

I'm not sure why the lockpick would affect the VCIM though.

Ya your right doesn't the lockpick simply plug in the Navigation Radio harness and never go near the VCIM harness?

I think that the problem comes when using the steering wheel buttons that they may interfere with each other.. oh boy

What if you have a 2010 truck and want to change the VCIM to a bluetooth one? Would that be an issue with OnStar?

If I remember correctly, the only buttons that the Lockpick utilizes are the window lockout button on the door and the mute (talking head) button on the steering wheel audio controls. So I suppose the mute button could be an issue. To activate the lockpick, I think you press the mute button four times within 3 seconds. I'm not sure why this would interfere with the bluetooth functionality? Don't you press and hold the mute button to to activate voice controls, including bluetooth?

Yes and no. The lockpick definitely doesn't go anywhere near the VCIM in my Acadia - as the VCIM is in the jack compartment in the rear of the vehicle. However, the VCIM is connected to the radio somehow because Onstar uses the radio. Still not sure why the lockpick would be a problem though unless there is a conflict in commands as PetenZ alluded to.

Can you post a link to the thread where you saw this? Interested in knowing what specifically I should be on the lookout for.

    • On 2021 3500hd it consistently sets automatically when selecting park if the incline/decline is above a certain angle.
    • Curious, did anyone ever get a fix for the vibration reported here.   I have a 2024 Silverado with 6.6 duramax.   I’m noting the same vibration resonating up through the steering shaft into the steering wheel.    Best way to describe- like someone is tapping on the steering shaft/components and it’s resonating into the steering wheel.    thanks.
    • Hi friends - first time poster. I have a 2015 sierra Denali with 150k miles, I’m the second owner and she’s given me 75k of great service. I run a pulse AFM disable device. Starting Thursday when I exited the freeway after a short local ride it started idling rough, with an obvious misfire shake and was down on low end power.  I got it home and hooked it up to my scannner and found no codes but in live data a pretty bad misfire on cylinder 5. I replaced the coil, plug and wire with all new OE replacements (Delphi gn10165 coil, acdelco wire and 41-168 plug). It’s still behaving the same way after firing the parts cannon at it.   I know cyl 5 is a non AFM cylinder so I am not thinking this is AFM related but I’m kinda at a loss. injector? Bent pushrod? It’s running too well over 1k rpm to suggest those IMO. Has anyone chase this issue before and what was it? Any suggestions?
    • 2017 Silverado L83 5.3l 6speed transmission Hello, not a new member but havent posted in a while and my old signup info isnt working so had to create a new account. anyways, I have an issue with my truck and hope someone can spread some light on whats happening: -when it goes to 4cyl mode it makes a clunk sound (but not when coasting or going downhill) -when in 4 cyl mode and under load it makes a load pulsating sound (not a tick). -goes away completely when in M5 gear or when plugging in an AFM delete. Im guessing it is one of 2 things but im not convinced of either to be honest. 1. lifter stuck in v8 mode 2. torque converter shudder realistically it doesn't seem like the TC as there is no physical vibration , and it never happens in v8 mode. but maybe? and wouldnt a lifter make a sound whether with load or not? any ideas let me know please. thank you!
    • Which has made me wonder with the various engine failures of a few brands in the last few years, is it sub par materials such as lifters etc causing failures, or bearing clearances on the crank etc or perhaps bad designing of an engine physically or causing too much load on the components due to the hp/torque they can push out of them. Or is the oil viscosity and additive package of current oils or a lack of oil flow by an oil pump not able to supply sufficient oil at idle or under high load at low rpm. Or is it every item I listed that combined together has pushed the limits so far to the left that there is hardly a margin of safety left and add in some fuel dilution and too long of an OCI and premature engine failure is the result ?.
