Or do what we've been talking about here, which is as much of a "factory" upgrade as there is, so far.

Yes, it works great and is about the easiest upgrade I've done for my truck.

Except you have to have steering wheel controls, and find a VCIM since GM won't sell you one

I see four part numbers for Onstar VCIM with Bluetooth. I know I have seen three mentioned in this thread. Any idea of what functionality would be added or lost with each part number. The part numbers are:

25984445

20783878

20783877

I am not sure about 25984445 or 20783878. I can vouch for 25984444 and 20783877 both work. I did and experiment this weekend. I originally purchased 20783877 and installed in my truck. I needed another one for My G8 and found 25984444 on ebay, and decided to give it a try. Instead of just putting it in the G8, I figured I would pull the 20783877 out and install the 25984444. And it worked. I had to re-pair my phone and re-add my stored name tags. I took some pics and as far as I can tell, there is no external difference. I would open them up, but with my luck, I'm sure they would die. Here are the pics:

Antenna came apart when I removed it, cover just came off (may want to take yours off by taking the side panel off and reaching around the back before you remove it if you ever have to.

I got interested in this option when this thread first started. I was disappointed when I found GM put restrictions on the purchase of the VCIM. I did a search on Ebay for 20783877 and found nothing. I did save the e=search and about 2 weeks ago got a email saying it found a 20783877 for sale. It was a buy it now for $139. for a 33,000 mile box out of an Enclave. I took a chance and bought the box. I ordered the antenna from my dealer and waited for the parts. It all came together today. The hardest part was figuring out how to remove the lower dash plastic cover. Once the cover is off the box is right there in a plastic spring loaded retainer. I disconnected the battery and swapped out the box. I then reinstalled the dash panels and reconnected the battery. I got 2 green lights on my rear view Onstar mirror and everything including BLUETOOTH works. Thanks to all the contributors who made this possible.

Rick,

Do you have the steering controls and/or the updated Onstar mirror? I don't have either. I'm wondering if I buy a used but activated VCIM, antenna and microphone if that's all I need.

Thanks.

WOW, I just read through all 19 pages and I still have a few questions.

I currently have a 2009 GMC Sierra SLE w/active OnStar, active XM radio. However the truck did NOT come with BlueTooth option or steering wheel radio controls.

Is GM PART # 25851951 the new upgraded BlueTooth/Radio steering wheel controls and is it a simple plug and play upgrade (remember my truck did NOT come with steering wheel controls)?

What else do I have to buy to install factory BlueTooth in my truck (remember this is a 2009 Sierra SLE)?

I want to be able to use my OnStar since I have an active 12 month account.

Thanks for any help.

See in the photos above the VCIMs have a sticker on them with serial numbers and the sticker also has a BlueTooth logo. If yours has the logo I would say its a good bet it works

So if I read this right, there are four parts that we could swap out our VCIM (2009 silverado in my case): 25984444, 20783877, 25984445, 20783878. What is interesting is that you can buy parts 25984445 and 20783878 from GM Parts direct for around $200 while the other two are restricted. Anyone know why they havent restricted those? What exactly is the difference, did they just come out of different cars?

I think you may find that some numbers have superceded others and are no longer valid.
