Bluetooth Options For 2008 Silverado

First let me say Sorry about my studder. My typing skills need work along with my computer skills.

My air never shuts down during a call. I noticed because I was annoyed that I couldnt hear the phone clear then thought how lazy I've become since adding the radio controls on the wheel. So now I just count turning the air down as my mobile workout.

Has anyone noticed that when using the bluetooth theres a lag between hitting the answer button and the call connecting? Because I have! When I use the onstar minutes it works like lightning but the bluetooth is just slower maybe its the phone or maybe it just takes time to stream.

...exactly, and if the air is on low already, it does not turn down anymore. It's only when the air is on at a higher speed that it will reduce during a call. Still gotta love having a factory bluetooth option that controls some many stock electronics items. You cannot get that with any aftermarket devices.

 

Has anyone tried to upgrade to xm traffic? Probably more suited for another stream but I thought I would ask if anyone knows of another discussion stream.

I just spoke to XM about this. They dont really give their customer service reps much training because the guy gave me 3 month free trial and then I called again because I didnt see any difference. The second guy says your 2007 GM Nav radio isnt set up for XM Traffic. I asked him if I needed a new XM module or was it a software upgrade and he had no clue.

 

The XM module is different just like the VCIM in the 2009MY

Thanks for the information. I guess I'll have to try a possible XM module swap and see. My understanding is that the Navigation radios are the same but no one knows for sure if the radio requires new software to support the xm traffic signals. to be continued...

I bet your right, the radio are capable we just dont get the software to activate the feature....betcha the XM module is the same thing.......unlike Ford's SYNC product GM doesn't want to give us any backwards compatibility

Anyone having luck getting a VCIM lately? Went to my dealer today and at first he said no problem. Then the flags came up. So he said get me a VIN off an '09 w/bluetooth; so I did and he said no problem. Well, now it's still a problem. He showed me in the system where there is like 200 of these sitting in the warehouse. Very frustrating that they won't sell them and at the same time are bankrupt...

As far as I can tell there is NO getting them through the dealer, without them really working the system and putting themselves at risk from GM. They are also few and far between at salvage yards, but I found mine in the span of 4 hours (I got lucky) so there are a few. The going price seems to be anywhere from $60 to as high as $500, although I wouldn't pay much more than $100 for one.

If bought at the dealer, it would cost more than twice that. I senda dozen e-mails to late model slavage yards with no luck.

Do you know if the new VCIM will allow for MapQuest maps being delivered to the OnStar? I tried with my 07 and it says the OnStar isn't compatible with MapQuest

I've not heard of such a thing, so I can't say. I will mention that my onstar "red light" has been coming on and then going off. I really want to poke it and see what it does, but I think I'll leave well enough alone. The bluetooth feature works PERFECT.

I tried it once and it said I had to have on Star active and I don't.
