When you push the button the steering wheel, what does it do?

Joe

mine was absolutely not like that. I press that button and the onstar voice comes on and you say "bluetooth", or you can say one of the other, many, onstar commands.

Joe

When I say "Bluetooth" It does not recognize the word. However, the right Onstar LED is now red...

One push is mute. 2 secs it gives a beep and seems to be waiting for a voice command. If I say PAIR or BLUETOOTH it doesnt recognize it.

I just walked out to my truck for you, when you press the button for 2 or so seconds it beeps, say "Onstar", then it will Say "Onstar", then "Onstar Ready" (though I actually only hear "..star Ready", kinda like it handed it over to the Onstar module, as they are 2 different voices). Then I say "Bluetooth" and it says "Bluetooth Ready" then you can pair, etc. Give it a try and let us know.

Also, what year are you putting this in? Your profile says an 04, which is not going to work for sure, but I assume you have something newer you are working with...?

Find a VCIM used, usually around $100, sometimes the antenna is on there already, and you really don't need the steering wheel switches. So under $150 you can have factory bluetooth. Just being patient to find one used is the issue.

Interesting, I asked on this thread quite a few times and was told I needed the steering wheel switches for this thing to work (never explained why I couldn't use the onstar button on the mirror)...

if this is the case, maybe I will start looking for a used one...

Well, let me rephrase, you don't need the updated steering wheel buttons. You do have to have buttons there. The updated ones just replace the existing ones with a picture of a phone added on the middle button and the bottom button. Sorry to confuse.

Edit: Although, I am not 100% why they are needed.

Thanks for all of the replies especially Hawk for going out to his truck. I did exactly what you said, reluctantly since I already tried it about 6 times already and IT WORKED! Dunno why, but I'm very happy. What do I need to do to make the On-Star happy? Also; Does anyone have a set of complete directions for the Chevy? I have some for the Caddy, but they are a bit different. Will the phonebook on my iPhone carry over to the truck?

ALSO- My dealer was able to get me a VCIN. It took over a week, GM cancelled the first order and I had to get a VIN from an '09 w/factory bluetooth off the lot and tell them mine was stolen but my parts guy is very good and found a work around.

Thanks again; this is a great resource.

Or do what we've been talking about here, which is as much of a "factory" upgrade as there is, so far.

Joe

Has anyone heard anything new about the factory bluetooth 'upgrade' rumor?

No rumour...upgrade is available. All we have to do is trade in our vehicle for a 2009 & up
