This is stupid, no wonder GM is in financial problems. must be the new business model "Don't allow customers to by part for your products, we can't have that customers would actually be happy and proud of their GM Product."

maybe a little bitter at them ... but still love my 2008 Sierra Crew 6.0 VortexMax.

Yes it is stupid, but I assume OnStar has something to do with it. It is a seperate company correct? Even so, you think they would want to sell their products as well. It shouldn't matter if you want to put in on your bicycle, they should still be eager to sell it.

the only good thing I can see about this is that each day that passes there is more of a chance of finding one used from a salvage yard. the first one I tried on my own pickup I bought used from ebay for $65 so it cost me just over a $100 to add blue tooth to my truck. but I havent been able to find onother one since. remember the VCIM is the same in acadia, enclave, tahoe, suburban, yukon, yukon xl, sierra and silverado. maybe we can slowly add blue tooth to all your trucks and end up saving you same money in the process

Maybe a glimmer of hope, I got an email from the customer service rep at GMpartsdirect and they are now saying they can supply the part they just have to order it from the manufacturer. Bad news is the price has gone way up as noted in earlier posts. I placed the order again today through the customer service rep and he quoted me approximately 10 days for delivery. I am not totally confident that they will deliver, but for now I can only hope that they can pull it off. I will post any updates.

I placed my order with GMpartsdirect March 18 and still have not received it. The rep said once they receive it from the manufacture that they will then ship it to me. Fortunately, I paid before the price increase, $219 + $40 shipping. Fingers crossed.

Has anybody has success with the BlueStar solution from http://www.costartech.com/.

For 279$ seems like a good solution expect that it eliminates the onstar completly. With the way they (onStar or GM) have been handling this may not be a bad thing.

Personally I still would rather upgrade my vcim and still have the option of using OnStar if I choose.

Anybody have any updates? I'm on the fence, but I want to jump over and order from GMpartsdirect. However, I also want to make sure if I can get the parts, the Techs at the Dealership can actally program the VCIM for my truck...an 07 Avalanche.

I ordered a BlueSTAR kit, it shipped yesterday, so I should have it some time next week. Should have it installed next weekend.

Ok Guys....I just ordered all 3 part numbers from GMpartsdirect. The price for the VCIM has gone up Significantly! The total cost for all 3 was $497. However, I am hoping that GMpartsdirect can now get the VCIM and the large price increase is a result of that. I wil keep you posted.

Why does GM want to foil owners from doing this upgrade but sells the DIC controls as a kit? Because there's nothing to be lost by allowing us to upgrade the DIC, but this upgrade means you'll have no need for their overpriced Onstar service. I called to cancel my onstar yesterday because I've decided it's cheaper in the long run to pay for the BlueStar solution than to keep paying for Onstar. Of course they shuffled me right over to a hard-seller, who I told that the only use I have for Onstar is the handsfree phone but since the minutes are so pricy I'm going to do something else. She immediately gave me 120 minutes for free (which is worth like fifty bucks).

Nice, but I still don't want to pay 20 bucks a month just to have bluestar.

So far, nobody has has answered or explained why ordering the 09 VCIM will not work in a truck without steering wheel controlls

I have an '08 SD with steering wheel controls. It was mentioned in an earlier post that there is no need to replace the steering wheel buttons other than to have the phone logo, but do I need to order the steering wheel switch # 25851951?
