Bluetooth Options For 2008 Silverado

What's the difference? You'd be using your Verizon minutes either way, correct? Do you have to pay some sort of fee to add the vehicle to the account?

They charge you monthly for an extra line which is around $10

How many of you guys actually pay for this? Anyone?

I'm just curious how prevalent the usage actually is.

I was going to do the swap, or do an aftermarket....then I thought I don't make that many calls from a vehicle anyway so its not worth the money. I can get a very nice BT headset for $100 and then I can use it anywhere I want to.

But I can see where it would come in handy for some. All things being equal I would rather have it integrated, but don't feel like jumping through hoops to do it.

Daddy, when I found out they were gonna charge $10, plus the Onstar fee, plus the extra for Verizon (my local carrier is about $25/mo cheaper) I said forget it. It aint worth it for me.

thanks to everyone for being understanding on this. talked with a nice guy at GM tech assistance and he said that he is pretty sure GM is going to come out with a kit to upgrade your 07 and 08 trucks to bluetooth. maybe that is why they dont want us doing it ourselves. I will keep you up to date with what I am finding out.

thanks to everyone for being understanding on this. talked with a nice guy at GM tech assistance and he said that he is pretty sure GM is going to come out with a kit to upgrade your 07 and 08 trucks to bluetooth. maybe that is why they dont want us doing it ourselves. I will keep you up to date with what I am finding out.

Did OnStar pricing just go up? I have it month to month on my CC and last month the card got hijacked so I dont have the history. Its $18.something a month now.

Call up and tell them you're going to cancel because you don't need it...see how fast they drop the price to something 'promotional' for you.

Since it looks like the factory BT option is off the table at the moment.....

Is anyone aware of a 3rd party option that will allow the use of the factory mic while still retaining the use of OnStar?

It would be great if BlueStar didnt require you to disable OnStar

Plus you have to pull you phone out of your case (if you have a case type phone) to see who is calling. What if its your mother in law!!!!!!

Yes, I have a nice one of these devices. I simply can't wear this device the whole time I'm travelling in my vehicle, on the off chance my phone might ring.

That bugs me to no end... I cannot stand people who wear those things as a fashion statement. Its as if to say "LOOK AT ME!!!! I AM SO DAM IMPORTANT I MUST WEAR THIS AT ALL TIMES IN CAST SOMEONE CALLS!!!!!!!!!"

I have on that I use when driving so that I may keep both hands available. I also use it around the house and such to minimize the amount of cancer I pump into my brain, just in case it actually does.

Never do I wear it when I am not on a call. I also made sure to get one that was less noticeable and fits under my sock hat such that no one even knows I am wearing it when I am in public. (I just look like some crazy dude off rambling to himself. )

It works great. Samsung WEP500.

Doogie I coudn't have said it any better. Man those people drive me insane. I guess that is why I'm looking for a solution to implement to my truck rather than to my Head.

I finally got the vcim through oem parts today. They sent me part #20783878 which according to the number is the same module except it doesnt have "voice record" any idea what that is? I think I'll call them in the morning but I'm not sure if I should send it back or it's just a memo function in the escalades and tahoe's

if it has bluetooth it will work fine, you will be able to use bluetooth but one of the green lights will be red on your mirror. once we get the programming problem figured out then you can go get it programmed. I would not worry about the memo function unless you want memo.
