Alright guys, I've got a question. Hopefully someone out there has had similar situations which brought some expertise to have an answer for me.

...An IRS agent who's a member here would be awesome right about now. :D

I'm not giving the 5,000,000 word sob story novel... just basics, all I ask is please don't judge me. :D

What's the penalties for post-deadline Filing?

Technical glitch made me miss the mark by 2 hours.

No penalty, if they owe you... Interest and penalties if you owe them..

"Interest charges started running at 12:01 a.m. April 16 on unpaid taxes, even if you got an extension of time to file. Right now, the IRS meter is set at an annual rate of 5 percent (it's adjusted quarterly). So it's definitely to your advantage to get your taxes filed as soon as possible."

If you got it in within 2 hours they may well look the other way. It's possible that it will make them look at the return with a little more interest. Worst case would be a one day penalty with interest... couldn't be much at all.

WHere you been Man?

Yeah, if they owe you, you can wait years to file...Up to 3 here in Oklahoma (and federal I believe).

If you owe them though? Yeah...BOHICA.

That's bad Sam. :)

Dammit Jeremy... THEY OWE YOU and you couldn't get it filed in time? If they ever owed me a refund... I'd hand deliver it on January One.

Hell I got mine back around March 10th. I blew it all when I went to my beach house for the weekend.

Yeah - If they owe you, there are no penalties... If you wait long enough (too long?), they'll even contact you to tell you "we think we owe you money - file your taxes, so we can be sure of how much we owe you, so we can send it to you."

If you owe them, they're not nearly so nice about it (so I've heard).

I got my refund on 2/15. I'm using the cushion from that to close on the house, this week. Woohoo!
