"shark Fin" Antenna Removal...

I've looked and looked, I've read how to convert my radio to anything here in this forum, but I've got a problem I can't seem to locate here.

I was lucky enough to catch a huge rock with the roof of my truck a few weeks ago. The dealer fixed the dents and repainted the roof, looks great again. Part of this process required them to remove the shark fin antenna. About 5 miles away from the dealer on the way home, I lost all my FM and AM stations. I can only think the wire on the antenna came off.

Since the dealer is only open during my work hours and they're about a 45 min drive away, I'm trying to figure out how to remove or access the connections on the roof antenna to see if it's a quick fix I can do myself, but shy of smashing it with my framing hammer, I can't figure out how to get it off.

Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Shark fin is just for OnStar I believe. Not sure if it could affect FM/AM operation but it is wired into the same unit. I think I'd take it back to them though... dropping the headliner for wire access isn't a job for somebody that hasn't done it before. I think a framing hammer might leave a mark!

Good luck.

Thanks for the input. I thought that might be the way to get there, but it's more then I want to get into. I guess the days of a simple screw in antenna are long gone.

Thanks again,

John.

Good thing I didn't try to take the shark-fin off. Turns out the AM/FM I was missing comes in through the regular antenna on the front fender/hood. Being a new truck to me and my first GM, I never noticed it missing. Guess the dealer/body shop didn't tighten it all the way and it fell off. The mounting hole is small and blends in, I never noticed it gone and just assumed it was all in the fin. Took 5 seconds for them to screw on a new antenna, and all is good again!!
