What Do I Have?

Hey all - stopped into Autozone after work today to pick up rear pads and rotors for a brake job on my truck. The guy behind the counter asked two questions that I didn't know the answer to, so I left with nothing...

I had the choice between single or double-piston calipers. And, I had the choice between 325mm and 330mm rotors. (Another choice was 3.73 gear ratio or not, and I knew that answer).

Anyway, what do I have? Remember, this is the rear of the truck. I'd run out and check right now, but the truck is in the shop for a new fuel pump.

Thanks!

I would think they should be able to tell you that info...When I bought brakes for my '02, they didn't ask anything like that.

I would call a different parts house & ask them for prices...see if they ask the same questions.

Just last week my truck was at my buddies to have the rear brakes done. The parts place sent him the wrong parts several times.

I have a 2002 YukonXL, and it has double-piston calipers, but they sent him single piston. Apparently that was what was listed...but it certainly is not what's on my truck.

According to the parts place (I don't recall their name), the brakes on my truck are what is listed for the 2500, although I have a 1500.

Go figure.........

Yours should be close to mine.

The front shoes are double piston Calipers and the rear shoes are Single.

You may as well replace your Ebrake Pads while your there as well as mine were completely cooked when I replaced my rear shoes. The rear shoes are a peach to change however, the Front shoes are a joke.

Why in the hell GM decided to use a TORX, T-55 from memory, bolt on there I'll never know. A tip with the Front brakes use your Torx socket and a hammer to break any loctite or rust that may be on the threads of the front bolts.

Good luck!

Steve,

I'm pretty sure it's the 325mm rotors you need. The 330mm are much thicker in comparison. You can take a ruler and crawl under your truck and check the thickness and if it's around 18.5mm you need the 325mm rotors. The 330mm are approximately 28.5mm thick.

Just a quick update...my truck had the single piston calipers and 325mm rotors. Thanks for the help, all. The job was really a piece of cake once I had all the parts I needed.
