My buddy has a 97' Silverado extended cab, short box, 3.73 gears, 265/75/r16 tires, and the 5.7. He is confident that his truck is way faster than mine in the quarter mile.

Mine is a 99' ec,sb, 3.73 gears and 265/75/r16 tires, but it has the 4.8L.

Which one do you guys think is faster?

Yours!....I had the same two trucks!.. A '97 extended-cab,short-bed,5.7,3.73 gears,265/75R16 tires,I traded it in on a '99 extended-cab,short-bed,4.8,3.73 gears,265/75R16 tires...and it was way faster than the '97 I had.

He will take you off the line, but as your RPMS climb, you should start to catch him pretty quickly..............not sure who will be out front at the 1/4 mile mark though.

Yeah he might have a better jump, but your tranny is better and body is more aerodynamic and you will take him.

The 2008 4.8 is now delivering close to 300HP. I bet the old 5.7 doesn't even get that close, even though it was a good engine.

Agreed. 350s were not shipped with todays horsepower numbers but they did have good low end torque. The old 350 was a great engine and pulled my boats like no tomorrow... but I'd have to bet on my current 4.8 in a drag race. I've seen many of the 5.7 powered trucks that sounded really good run in the mid 17s and into the 18s at the track. Our new trucks are faster than that.

Not sure about a drag race, but i knew two guys that went bumper to bumper and the 5.7 pulled the 4.8 all over the place.

Thanks for all of your answers guys, I really appreciate your help.

Bumper to bumper is pointless. It has nothing to do with engine size, only traction. All you have to do is wait for the other guy to start spinning and then you can pull him anywhere.

Well, there's only one way to find out for sure... Is there a strip anywhere near you?

I agree, but unfortunatly the nearest strip is a few hours away so thats kind of out of the question.
