Another Wont Go Into 4wd Thread

ok so this has been a ongoing problem that Ive been ignoring, now that spring is here its a good time for some wheeling I want to get this fixed, so since the first of february my truck in the sig wont go into 4wd. Ill hit the 4hi button (autotrac case) and i can hear the transfer case try and shift but it wont complete( the button blinks from 2wd to 4hi for a couple seconds then back to 2wd) I keep trying and it wont work, eventually the lights turn off and the service 4wd light pops on, But if I only try the button once or twice the service 4wd wont come on. I dont think its the actuator cause I had it out while my dad pushed the 4hi button and the actuator came out but then went right back in, should it do that? Or is something else not working right causing the actuator to go right back in?

In my old body style 99 it was the actuator. There were 2 one in the diff and one in the transfer case. Only one was bad so it still sounded like it was engaging. It was about $100 for the part and 5 minutes to put it in.

A transmission/drive train shop told me today that it was more then likely my encoder motor
