New Ami Locking Fuel Doors Available Now

Recommended Posts

For those who didn't know, AMI has released their locking fuel doors for the new body style (07.5-08) Silverado/Sierra. I just ordered the all black locking version #6101KL. They also have a brushed billet version #6101PL. So basically the primary part # is 6101 then you determine chrome, billet, locking etc from there. With diesel over $4/gal now and our big (long bed) fuel tanks and that thefts are up and I want to make it just a little more difficult to get access. Here is the AMI website: http://www.allsalesmfg.com/catalog/page11.html

Note that most websites don't have these numbers posted yet so you'll have to call them and ask if they have that part # available, which they should.

The locking fuel door is nice but thieves now punch holes in the fuel tank and drain it that way. People who have nothing better to do all day long than steal will always figure out a way around simple measures like this. Nice looking cap though. I think it is more of a style item though than a serious deterrent.

Found some on Auto-anything for 110 bucks...Guess I'll wait for the 40-50 dollar Ebay auctions haha...I plan on getting an all-black non-locking door.

Here is one of the AMI locking fuel doors. This is on my 2006 Duramax.

The locking fuel door has been perfect in every way.

I have that one in chrome (I would have prefered the brushed aluminum, but had one before and the magnesium chloride did a number on it). My only complaint is the lock tumbler is very dry and gritty, probably full of mag chloride corosion. I need to try to find some good lock lube to free it up. Also, the mag chloride actually made the stainless steel hardware "weep" down the chrome, requiring some elbow grease to get it off. But my mileage seems to have improved with the door :)

If I catch the local kids punching a hole in my tank, I'll punch a hole in them with the 30-30. That should get their attention :)

The theif training circuit has cooked up a better way to get gas since you can't get a siphon hose down the throat of most filler necks. They take a cordless drill and a 1/2 inch bit... drill a hole in the tank and catch what they want and let the rest go to waste on the ground.

What do they care? They didn't buy it.

Nothing much worse than a theif in my book. I will shoot in the head anyone I find stealing from me and get great enjoyment out of watching them die. :)

Well, then the next anti-thief deterrent would be to mount a skid plate of some sort on the tank, make it harder for them to drill into (most tanks are plastic or very thin metal).

Shoot them in the femoral artery...Give them a few minutes to reflect on their crappy life before they bleed out.

WOW.....That's a lot of killin....LOL.....On a lighter note....I just ordered my 6101KL. All black and locking.

Yea...I know about the drilling the tank issue to get free gas......It Sucks someone would go to that. :dunno:

They must have an awful life to have to steal gas from people. That's bad Karma man....It will come back to them.

I have a friend that has a Toyota...(Yea I know)...He was at the mall, came out, started up his truck and it was really loud. Someone took a sawsall and cut off his catalitic converter for the platinum inside (So They Say). Insurance company told him go to the dealer for a new one...

$1400.00! :)

Hey TX2500HD thanks for the heads up on that fuel door....

Hey TX2500HD thanks for the heads up on that fuel door....

Glad to help. It is simply amazing what these folks are doing now so I can guess that for those who want to try and stick the hose down, they'll be discouraged and look somewhere else with my locking door on.

So since we are on the "don't steal my gas you ****" kick, do they actuall make a full skid for the fuel tank? They make them for Jeeps to keep you from punching holes in them with rocks and stuff. Anybody seen them for our trucks? Not only would it be nice to deter someone for a bit longer trying to get to the fuel but it would keep those pesky tree branches in the fields from popping up and going thru the tank.

Any ideas?
