Another Odd Buzzing Interior Noise

I have a buzzing noise which sounds like it is coming from the lower dashboard directly in front of the driver's seat. It is definitly a harmonic buzz, and is pretty consistant when the engine is running. Thinking it was the dash itself, I took off and put back on a lot of the plastic pieces looking for something loose.

 

While doing that, I was in the passenger seat leaning over, and the noise was not there. I realized that the noise only occurs with engine running, when my feet are on the floor, specifically my right heel near the accelerator. When I lift my heel, the noise stops. When I put it back down, it starts again. I am really not making this up.

Take a rubber mallet and whack the crap out of the floor pan where your feet rest. Yeah I know it sounds like a joke but I am serious. If the weight of your foot makes the sound go away, I would imagine distorting the metal just a bit with a mallet would stop it altogether?

I am going to try it. I had a muffler heat shield with the same issue and that cured it. Maybe I will look at it from underneath for anything rubbing the floorpan...then whack it.

Jim, you got me thinking about the floorpan, so I crawled underneath (mallet in hand). I had also read that someone had installed a throttle spacer, and his fuel lines were moved up against the firewall. The TBI pulses translated through the lines to the firewall and dash. Sure enough, a fuel line had popped out of its rubber grommet and was touching the floorpan. Pressed it back in, and noise is gone.
