Steering Clunck

I did the steering mod, removing the intermediate shaft adn packing it full of grease. This was after changing all the rotors and pads on my GMC Yukon XL 2003. I removed the battery during the steering mod, but did not disconnect airbag cable or pull any fuses to disable the airbag.

Everything went fine until I turned on the engine. Brakes work fine, and steering noise, but now I have a "Service Airbag System" code on my display. I had marked the steering shaft components so not to connect the steering in wrong orientation. Everything has been assembled correctly per the markings.

Could rotating the steering by 30 degrees one way or the other to get to the bolts for tightening, have done something to the clock spring or other airbag related thingys :withstupid: ?

Or can the code be just cleared and everything is going to be OK?

Yes, moving the steering wheel can mess up the clock spring. I"m not sure how far you can rotate the wheel. Every one says not to rotate it at all. I changed mine without rotating the wheel at all.
