'99 Silverado Ext Cab 5.3 Replacement Shocks

I have a '99 Silverado Sport Side Ext Cab 5.3 4x4. Getting ready to replace the shocks. I know I can do it myself, not a problem. The question is...... what make and model of shock. I feel like the dealers always try to push me to whats in their best interest.

 

I have stock shocks...... mostly highway driving but I do go camping, dirt bike riding etc. Since the vast majority of my driving is in town, I'm really partial to the smoooooooooooooth ride my old shocks had. So many brands.... so many choices. I don't want to put on crap to save a buck but I'm not made of money either. $30 per shock up to $75 and so many in between.........

 

Any advice?

I put Bilsteins on my 99 Z71 and was quite placed. It was a firm, but well-mannered ride.

yes... bilsteins are the way to go. ive put them on some trucks and they ride great!

Another vote for Bilsteins. I've put them on a '01 2500HD and a 93 2500 in the last 2 years. The 93 was much better, but the '01 was amazing, and I didn't think it that bad before.
