Are Fog Lights Worth It?

Well, I'm fixin to change my front end of my 07 Silverado from all black to chrome grille/bumper and painted end caps fairly soon. The only thing I'm stuck on is whether to get fog lights or not. I never got an estimate with fog lights included but I think I might get them if they're less than $250 or so. I don't want to go spending another $500+ for them though. Sometimes I think the fog lights make the truck look better and other times I think it looks OK without them. I'm kind of torn between the two.

My question for yall though is if you use your fog lights much? I'm want to avoid spending a few hundred on fog lights if I'm never going to use them. I don't know what to think about them right now so I'll see if yall can influence my choice.

I rarely use stock fog lights on trucks. Too high up off the ground to do much good. Get them for looks, not for functionality at far as I am concerned.

i use them at night so i can see more heading down those dark roads. i usually can't use my high beams for long cuz there are alot of cars but you can always use fogs. and i personally think they look really good on the nbs too

Are they worth it from a strictly functional point of view? In my opinion, no. From an aesthetic point, though, I think they're great. I just installed HIDs in mine and I think they look good; I use them as daytime running lights since I disabled my regular DRLs when I installed my HID low beams.

I would get the fogs because of the reasons stated above and, if you plan on going HID/Xenon anytime in the future, and live in a place that snows, the fog lights come in handy. Granted, I currently don't have (stress the word currently) xenons on my YD, but my bimmer does. When we get a heavy snow fall here in the winter (WI), the xenons light up the snow flakes a lot more than halogen and I found myself at least a couple times a year driving the car with the headlights off (parking lights on) and fogs on to see the road clearer. Yes, I know that it may not be legal, and actually got questioned by a sheriff a few years back. Once I showed him the difference, he agreed it was safer and did not hassle me over it.

ditto about having fog lights on when truck starts.

I put high beams in mine and they light the dark roads up real nice like.

I feel the fogs on my Honda Fit are more functional than the fogs on my Sierra! I'm really pretty disapointed in the performance as they don't seem to do anything for me from the drivers seat! Now, from another view point, i.e. another driver, they do make you more visible to on-coming traffic and they do look cool, but if they could be adjusted I could probably aim them better than they currently are and make them a 100 time more functional than they currently are... IMHO of-course!

Honda Fit huh; must be averaging up the mpg from the truck :sigh:

When raining or foggy they help me see the wet dividing line of the road at night.

....and fog lights look good!
