Question
HDguy
I have had my truck, an 07 new body style 2500 4x4 GMC with LMM, in to my local dealer because of low oil pressure readings. I was told the factory specs for this engine are 14 psi at hot idle, and 42 psi hot at 1800 rpm. My truck was OK with +/- 20 - 25 psi at hot idle, but showed only 30 - 35 psi at 1800 rpm on the gauge.
After checking the oil pressure with both a scan tool and a mechanical oil pressure gauge, I was told the actual oil pressure at 1800 rpm was +/- 45 psi. I was happy that the engine had sufficient oil pressure, but when I remarked that either the guage or sending unit must be malfuctioning and in need of replacement, I was told that the gauge was only an "indication" of the oil pressure, and the dealer would not replace either it or the sending unit under warranty.
Is there any sort of standard for accuracy on OEM gauges? I could understand 10 - 20% off, but 50%?
Should I pursue this further, or am I wasting my time?
Thanks
