Truck Rattles

I have a 04 silverado 1500 4x4 crew cab. When driving down the road the truck rattles when I go over bumps, if I touch the brakes it seems to go away. Is this a common problem and is there a fix for it. Thanks

Can you tell about where the rattle is coming from? I had this problem with my 07 and still do somewhat.

 

I thought that my rattle sounded like it was coming from inside air vent. When I had my door repaired I told the dealer about it and they said theyd take a look at it. They fixed it and said it was just a bolt coming loose inside the dash part under the steering wheel. That was a few months ago and now I am starting to hear it again.

 

I found that when I'm driving down the road and I can hear the rattle, if I push upward on the piece under the steering wheel the rattle goes away. So I know it's gotta be that bolt coming loose again. Try this with your '04 next time you hear your rattle and see if she shuts up.

Its coming from under the truck, I think from the front end. I can't hear it when I have the windows up.

My friends 01 silverado had a squeek, under the dash, that would go away, when you put pressure, on the steering column. I looked at it and found the bolt, to the dash support, just right of the gas petal, next to the carpet, was half way out. Dealer quoted him $400.+ to fix "steering column part". If your noise is outside, check the o2 sensor on the driver's side, before the cat. The washer rattles at 800-1000 rpms sometimes. Get under the truck and tap around, when it is cold, and listen for the noise. Also, my sway bar bushings make a noise, when I roll over speed bumps.

I found an old thread from 04 that sounds like the same thing my truck is doing. I tried to open it and it won't open for me. It is called "Lube intermidiate shaft guide". Maybee someone can refresh it.

check if your brake pads are tight.

I have a 2004 sierra and when I go over bumps sometimes I have a rattle that sounds like it comes from underneath my truck. I wonder if mine is the intermediate shaft?

I checked the brake pads and the seem tight. I drove it again and it seems to be the pads, like I said before when going over the bumps the noise goes away if I slightly touch the brake pedal.
