Well, its been a while since I had to take the top of a motor apart, but I have a lifter that on first start in the morning is rapping badly. It finally pumps up after several minutes, but I guess I know what Im doing this weekend. I dont want to let it go and damage the camshaft or have the lifter come out the side (ive seen it happen) 99 Sierra, auto, 4.8 lilter only has 62K on it and I dont drive it hard. Any tips on possible problems with dis-assembly and replacement ? Any special tools other than the quick disconnect for the fuel line ?

Other than removing the cylinder head, they sould come out with 1 bolt. If you want proper instructions, pm me your e-mail.

Well, I appreciate the offer, but I have the GM service manuals. I didnt realize you have to pull the heads on the new motors (dumb idea) so I'm not sure I want to do it in the driveway. I have the tools and the knowledge, but I also have a bad disc, so getting into it that far may not be an option. I am checking with a couple of good local shops for a $$ quote.
