2006 Gmc Sierra - Flash Flooded

Yesterday, my 2006 GMC Sierra Crew Cab (4x4) was flooded in a flash flood. Just shy of three feet of water. The water was just about 1" or so below the top of the hump in the floor between the driver's and passenger side of the cab. The bottoms of the seats were wet.

We drove my truck and a similar truck (exact same, just an 07) that was parked beside me with similar damages out of the water. Once there, we parked and let the water run out. The other guys insurance told him over the phone that his is likely written off and towed it to a wrecking yard. From there an adjuster will go out and confirm. My insurance company had mine towed to a shop so the adjuster can look at it.

Here's my question: What can I expect from this truck in the future if my insurance company DOESN'T write off my truck? Is it a simple matter of fluids in the diffs and transmission? Is it a matter of changing out the diffs and transmission? Is my computer screwed? Should this be a write off? The other guy finances his truck as part of his business fleet. GMAC told him that under no circumstances should he accept the truck if his adjuster does not write it off. Should I be taking the same stance?

I'd really like to hear your responses. I really liked this truck before this happened, but I don't think I want it if there's going to be permanent problems.

GM recommends that any GM vehicle that has flood waters to the point that the air bag sdm(computer) gets wet, is deemed a total loss and should be scraped.

Although it likely didn't do any permanent damage,(that couldn't be easily replaced) the insurance company will probably write it off to avoid any future claims. That and they will get huge money for the truck in a salvage auction and it will be driving down the road very soon. You would not believe how much money they get for vehicles at salvage auctions. It reeks of auto theft rings and drug money but the insurance companies turn a blind eye to it because it lines their pockets. I've been to many of these auctions here and seen stuff like 3 year old Suburbans burned completely to the ground bring 8 grand. They buy the title and switch a stolen Suburban over to its identity and sell it in another state.

EDIT: I'd bet they total it.

I bought my truck 14 months ago. It was a lease buy back in brand-new condition with 20,716 kms on it. It was 7 months old and had a butt-load of warranty. The dealership was more than happy to honour any warranty issues I had with it - great service. Man I loved that truck and the experience I had with this particular local delaership.

I am talking to the same dealership to help me purchase something like what I had, but I'd very much like to have it newer than 06 now. My salesman has since retired, but the new guy seems to be eager to help.

With the new reduced Canadian pricing, and falling truck prices, I'd also be interested in getting into a new truck. Looking for a 1/2 ton Crew Cab 4x4, 5.3L V8. I'd also like my colour back, but I'm willing to compromise!

It all depends on the insurance company and how much they'll give me for my written off truck. I went to clean it out last night -when I opened the door, the stink in there was enough to make a skunk cry.
